Alipay is the world's leading open digital daily life services platform operated by Ant Group. In 2004, Alipay launched as an escrow service to address the issue of trust between online buyers and sellers in the early days of e-commerce in China. As of June 30, 2019, Alipay has grown through continuous innovation to serve more than 1.2 billion users worldwide together with its global e-wallet partners. Working with more than 250 overseas financial institutions, Alipay has created online payment channels for buyers and sellers in more than 200 countries and regions. Alipay supports transactions in 27 different currencies, as well as tax reimbursement in 35 countries and regions. Foreign tourists and foreigners living in China can also use Alipay for mobile payments while in the country.

    Ant Group and Mastercard, along with 12 overseas payment partners of Alipay+ and other major international card organizations, have expanded the International Consumer Friendly Zones program to #Shanghai. This initiative enhances payment convenience within the city's 20 main shopping areas, international airports, and high-speed railway stations, as well as landmarks like the Bund, the Nanjing Road shopping district, and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower. A fleet of 25,000 taxis also joined the program for smooth city-wide travel. Following successful implementations in #Beijing and #Guangzhou, this program is set to roll out across 16 major Chinese cities to drive inbound tourism and elevate consumer experiences. #InternationalConsumerFriendlyZones #AntGroup #Mastercard

    Alipay is supporting Xi’an, the world-renowned ancient capital city located in Shaanxi province famous for the Terracotta Warriors, to build “International Consumer Friendly Tourist Destination” with more convenient payment and digital services like digital red packets. The initiative aims to enhance the travel and shopping experiences of international visitors to Xi’an. International visitors can now link their international Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Discover®, or Diners Club International® credit or debit card in the Alipay app to easily pay at a wide range of Chinese mainland merchants in the Alipay merchant network. In addition to paying like a local with Alipay, international tourists can also use their home e-wallet while exploring China. These e-wallets include AlipayHK (Hong Kong SAR, China), MPay (Macao SAR, China), Touch ’n Go eWallet (Malaysia) and Kakao Pay (South Korea), Hipay (Mongolia), Changi Pay (Singapore), OCBC (Singapore), Naver Pay (South Korea), Toss Pay (South Korea), TrueMoney (Thailand), NayaPay (Pakistan), and Kaspi.kz (Kazakhstan). Following the successful introduction of digital red packets, which international tourists could claim by scanning a QR code at Mount Huangshan before the May Day holiday in 2024, Alipay is expanding the service. Effective immediately through June 30, international travelers in Xi’an can claim digital red packets for discounts on offline purchases throughout China. Participating merchants include tourist attractions such as Tang Paradise and the Longest Day in Chang'an Theme Block, Lanxiangzi and other chain restaurants, Chahuanong and other tea brands, and food streets like Yongxing Fang, as well as metro and bus stations.

    Alipay is now taking the full AI turn. On April 26th, Alipay announced the testing of its new AI-powered user interface, the Alipay Smart Assistant, allowing users to engage with the Alipay app and enjoy its diverse services in a more #AI way. This isn’t just a chatbot; it serves as a gateway to Alipay’s diverse service ecosystem, able to direct users to over 30 types of life services within the app, such as #travel, #shopping, and #healthcare. It also links users to other AI features within Alipay, like the #Zhixiaobao financial assistant and AI poster creator. The Alipay Smart Assistant is built on Ant Group's self-developed Bailing foundation model. It will gradually become available to more users. Looking forward, Alipay will leverage advanced technologies to continuously improve its user experience, with more AI-powered innovations. #AIinAlipay #SmartAssistant
