🗺 Nowhere is safe from #ClimateChange. In the last couple of weeks, Switzerland has been hit by devastating floods and landslides in several of its mountainous cantons. The Swiss government is actively involved in coordinating nationally and internationally to reduce the risks of future disasters. 📍 Yesterday,at the High-Level political Forum 2024 in New York, Switzerland hosted a High-Level Event to find ways to strengthen resilience and sustainable development. This is part of the preparations for June 2025, when Switzerland will co-host the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction with United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Geneva 🤝 The Swiss government promotes a “whole-of-society approach” where different stakeholders (cantons, federal agencies, private sector, academia, NGOs, etc.) collaborate to propose people-centered solutions to reducing disaster risks. #SDG13 #HLPF2024 #DRR #GP25 Agenda2030CH

How can we improve human health and environmental sustainability? Diets are the link between people and planetary health that we need to address to reach #SDG2 “zero hunger and improved nutrition” SDG 2 is interlinked and integrated within the 17 SDGs but it is this year under particular review along with SDG 1, 13, 16 and 17, during the High Level Political Forum #HLPF which gathers governments, NGOs and experts in New York for two weeks. Switzerland engaged in the conversations by organizing a side-event on “Measuring and expanding progress on healthy diets from sustainable food systems: implications for achieving SDG2” with the contribution of the governments of Brazil, Costa Rica, Malawi as well as the FAO and Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement. This event was an opportunity to share insights about what constitutes #healthydiets and why and how diets should be better measured. Switzerland’s Bundesamt für Statistik BFS indicated that, along with Bangladesh, Brazil and Malawi and the support of UN agencies, it has put forward a proposal to include “Minimum Dietary Diversity (MDD)” as a new indicator under SDG 2. Participants to the side-event agreed that all stakeholders need to reinforce the global efforts to fight against all forms of malnutrition (underweight, micronutrient deficiencies and overweight) with effective policy actions both in the food and health systems. And that SDG global targets can be achieved if diets are better assessed and addressed. 👉 Read more about “Promoting dietary diversity to achieve the 'zero hunger' goal” and Switzerland’s activities to transform food systems: https://lnkd.in/gzVTSNm5 Agenda2030CH EDA - DFAE - FDFA Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN in Rome UNICEF World Health Organization International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) World Food Programme

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) participated in the 10th anniversary event of Swiss Sustainable Finance. During the panel discussion on “Combining Private and Public Capital to Enable Change,” SDC Vice Director and Head of Thematic Cooperation, Christian Frutiger, stressed that the gaps in capital needed to finance the #SDGs are widening, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The current investment trajectory is insufficient to meet these critical needs. 🔹 Public development agencies like the SDC need to increasingly leverage private investments into markets crucial for achieving the SDGs, using programs such as the SDG Impact Finance Initiative or innovative financing mechanisms like impact-linked finance. 🔹 Private wealth owners and asset managers should take bolder steps towards some of the fastest-growing markets, many of which are in Africa. Pension funds, with their long-term investment horizons, should explore opportunities on the continent, which is projected to have 2.5 billion inhabitants by 2050. 🔹 Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) must reassess their business models and approaches to better serve countries in dire need of publicly backed investments. Currently, only a small fraction of Blended Finance reaches the least developed countries, indicating the ineffectiveness of current models in channeling private investments into the hardest-to-reach markets. 🔹 Foundations are becoming increasingly important in using their funds for early-stage venture investments in social and impact enterprises. By better coordinating the investments of foundations with those of development actors, DFIs, and impact investors, we can build a stronger ecosystem for high-impact enterprises in emerging and frontier markets. The SDC looks forward to engaging with all these actors, through platforms like Swiss Sustainable Finance, to achieve the scale and speed required to address the challenges we face. #SustainableFinance #ImpactInvestment #SDGFinance #PublicPrivatePartnerships #EmergingMarkets #BlendedFinance
