Last week, The Rockefeller Foundation convened a small group of thought leaders from diverse vantage points to discuss #financingmechanisms for #regenerativefoodsystems. I had the privilege to hear insights shared firsthand, many anchored on this excellent report: https://lnkd.in/eXii59xt The Market Maturity Curve framework outlined helps to articulate the finance ecosystem needed to support novel and frontier solutions through their lifecycle to maturity. As well, the framing and reconciliation of several regenerative agriculture expectations focused the conversation on what we want to see in the system instead of generating a debate on what regenerative really means. And science will need to start engaging in interdisciplinary ways given the systems thinking requirements necessary to upgrade the system. Lastly, regenerative agriculture needs to sit within the construct of broad #regenerativesystems, all of which require the right #infrastructure and #marketexpectations to unlock #scale conversion. This will only come with the right understanding of the overall system we need to operate. Today is international #mangroveday and we're happy to share with you a new report on carbon stock in mangrove ecosystem! Mangroves provide various ecosystem services, including coastal protection, fishery nursery habitats, and carbon sequestration. The potential of mangroves to store carbon is five times greater than that of tropical rainforests. The Subnational Climate Fund (SCF) Technical Assistance commissioned a study to evaluate carbon stock in Mangrove ecosystems in Central Kalimantan in #Indonesia. The report was written by EcoNusa Foundation and the Indonesian Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (CCMRS-IPB). According to International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)'s Energy Progress Report, only 61% of the population in #Nigeria have access to electricity which leaves over 74 million Nigerians living in rural areas without access to electricity. At the same time, 78% of electricity generation in Nigeria is from natural gas. The development of #renewableenergy and efficient electricity generation is demanded to improve the well-being of Nigerians.   The Subnational Climate Fund (SCF) is providing #technicalassistance to a renewable energy project in northern Nigeria, developed by SOSAI Renewable Energies Company, which aims to develop a scalable solar mini-grids solution to provide affordable and productive electricity to communities living in rural Nigeria. https://lnkd.in/ejTHTubS

You might have noticed we are fascinated by #blacksoldierflies; this tropical insect that can turn biowastes and byproducts into marketable, high-value products (notably protein from their larvae). In order to continue our understanding of this promising solutions, we have commissioned Crop Nutrition Laboratory Services (Cropnuts) to conduct a study to evaluate the performance of the application of the BSF organic fertilizer for maize and potatoes. According to UN Environment Programme, there are  approximately 75 to 199 million tonnes of plastic currently found in our oceans.
