In 2015, during his doctoral studies at Freie Universität Berlin, he won the 2nd place of the #GlobalEssayCompetition with his essay on a universal basic income and attended the 45th St. Gallen Symposium. At 35 years old, Leon is one of the youngest cabinet members, exemplifying the symposium's vision of empowering the next generation. We wish him the best of luck in shaping South Africa's future. 📊 Senior executives show greater confidence in sustainable consumer behaviour The St. Gallen Symposium has released this year's "Voices of the Leaders of Tomorrow 2024" report in collaboration with the Nuremberg Institute for Market Decisions. This report delves into the theme of #ConfrontingScarcity, incorporating insights from over 650 Leaders of Tomorrow and 250 senior executives. It identifies areas of consensus, highlights divergent opinions, and uncovers potential avenues for intergenerational collaboration based on a multifaceted analysis of leaders’ perceptions of the corporate, consumer, and political landscapes. 🔎 Expectations towards consumers were a key area where senior executives and our Leaders of Tomorrow expressed their opinions. The following contrasts emerged: 🔹 78% of senior executives believe consumers will change their habits to support sustainability, compared to 35% of Leaders of Tomorrow. 🔹 55% of senior executives think consumers will pay more for sustainable products, while only 19% of Leaders of Tomorrow agree. Both generations recognise the importance of consumer action in sustainability but differ in their confidence levels. Leaders of Tomorrow are more sceptical about consumers' willingness to adopt sustainable behaviours or bear extra costs. This gap highlights the need for products and marketing strategies that resonate with consumers and effectively communicate sustainability's value. Want to get more insights? Recap: EcoOst St. Gallen Symposium 2024 with a healthcare focus on our region 🇨🇭 This Tuesday the 6th EcoOst St. Gallen Symposium convened at the Lokremise St. Gallen, gathering regional leaders from business, politics, and society to address pressing #healthcare issues. The event aimed to distill global insights from the St. Gallen Symposium into an actionable direction for the Eastern Switzerland region. The EcoOst focused on the topic of #scarcity in the healthcare sector, highlighting the need for sustainable solutions and innovative technologies. Key discussions emphasised the importance of placing people at the center of healthcare, rather than bureaucratic processes, and the necessity of promoting health preservation alongside illness treatment. Additionally, the event stressed the significance of cross-cantonal collaboration to improve efficiency, as political boundaries often hinder optimal healthcare delivery. Experts, including Tobias Wolf from OnlineDoctor (who btw. is also an ISC Alumnus), Christian Henseler from Zur Rose, Karen Peier and Karin Bosshard, PhD from Roche discussed innovative approaches to overcome resource shortages, leveraging new technologies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs for widespread healthcare delivery. Practical insights were shared from Cathalina Dietschweiler and Andrin Sean Brader, showcasing how digital innovations can streamline processes and improve patient care. The EcoOst St. Gallen Symposium 2024 provided valuable discussions and networking opportunities, reinforcing the commitment to translating global healthcare insights into regional actions, ultimately aiming to enhance the health and well-being of the local community. Many thanks to Fabian Pernstich and his team from the Industrie- und Handelskammer IHK St.Gallen-Appenzell (led by Markus Bänziger) to the Industrie- und Handelskammer Thurgau (led by Jérôme Müggler and Pascale Ineichen) and the Universität St.Gallen (HSG) as well to Stefan Schmid and the St. Galler Tagblatt for the great collaboration to organise such an important symposiums related event.
