Meet Giorgio, a mechanical tester at Mikron Machining in Agno. His passion for mechanics led him to start an apprenticeship as a Polymechanic at Mikron Machining in 2014 after graduating from secondary school. After completing his apprenticeship, he attended a three-and-a-half-year SSST course in mechanical engineering, working full-time and studying in the evenings. Today he is part of a team of testers at Mikron Machining. Giorgio values the autonomy and the opportunity to travel and learn languages that the company provides. Group net sales increased to CHF 190.7 million (+7.0%) in the first half of 2024 (first half of 2023: CHF 178.3 million), operating profit amounted to CHF 14.9 million (first half of 2023: CHF 14.6 million, +2.1%), and the operating profit margin was 7.8% of net sales (first half of 2023: 8.2%). The sales growth was driven by continued strong demand in Europe for automation solutions. We were delighted to welcome a high-level group of Executive MBA students from Franklin University Switzerland to Mikron Machining in Agno. Our guests received an in-depth presentation of the Mikron Group as well as how Mikron Machining systems lay the basis to considerably reduce production costs and optimize resource utilization to manufacture complex and precise metal components in high volumes. After the presentation, a guided tour in our workshop, focusing on high precision machine assembly, gave them unique insight into the meticulous processes and high standards that characterize Mikron Machining. At Mikron Machining, we value diverse talents and passions of our team members. Stefano Scafarella, a mechanical tester from Agno, recently embarked on an adventure that exemplifies his spirit of exploration and resilience. A lifelong kayaking enthusiast, Stefano decided to challenge himself with a kayak trip around the beautiful island of Elba. Over the course of five days, he successfully covered around 115 km in a 5.45-meter sea kayak, carrying all the necessary survival equipment: food, water, a tent, a small stove and even a barbecue for the evening meal. Stefano had the unique opportunity to observe the natural beauty of the island up close, camping on remote beaches only accessible by the sea. These included the sighting of numerous seagull chicks and wild goats with their young, which made the experience even more memorable. Stefano's adventure not only showcases his personal resilience and love of the outdoors, but also his ability to complete such a challenging journey independently. We celebrate Stefano’s incredible journey and wish him many more amazing kayaking adventures ahead! The metalworking department at Mikron Machining in Agno is fundamental to the production process of Mikron highly productive machining systems, guaranteeing unrivalled quality for all our product lines. Pietro Cammarata and Gabriele Parazzoli are working closely with the technical staff and project managers to precisely modify machine frames according to customer or project specifications. Our highly skilled team design and build custom guards and prototypes, play a key role in assembly and testing, and develop innovative solutions to oil and chip challenges. The department also deals with feed tubes for blanks entering the machine and extraction tubes that transport finished parts out of the machine. The main activities of the metalworking department include sheet metal cutting and bending, MIG and TIG welding, brazing, rolling, and punching, all carried out to the highest standards of precision. We strive to the highest standards of quality and precision in all our work, which contributes to the overall success and innovation of Mikron Machining. Recently, Silvio Perna, one of our Customer Project Manager, spent two weeks in Munich to improve his German language skills. His studies have been very dedicated with intensive German lessons in the mornings followed by group classes and individual sessions in the afternoons. In his free time, Silvio explored Munich's vibrant cultural scene, visiting museums, he was shopping, and diving into the city's unique culture. His absolute favorite part was running in Munich's beautiful parks, particularly the Olympiapark and the English Garden. To this day, Silvio continues his German lessons through our company program to maintain and consolidate his progress. "It was an incredible experience, both personally and professionally. I was amazed to discover that even in a foreign city I was able to connect with people thanks to my improved language skills.” As a company, we are committed in supporting the education and language skills of our employees through such enriching experiences.
