One of the key pillars of our work involves the promotion of participation in outdoor activities, and doing that in a responsible way that also encourages more diversity and inclusivity. It’s a challenge to achieve all of this, and much of the work that is done on behalf of the industry is led by our colleagues at the It's Great Out There Coalition and Opening Up The Outdoors, while many individual EOG members and other organisations run their own great projects. The European Outdoor Summit (EOS) is a great opportunity to provide a platform for some of these, showcasing best in class examples of engagement and activism. In Cambridge, one of the summit’s keynote speakers will be Gillian Rosh, who will talk about how Protect Our Winters Europe is welcoming vulnerable young people into the outdoors. Founded in 2003, the European Outdoor Group is the trade organisation for the outdoor industry.
Info
Building outdoor industry co-operation throughout Europe The European Outdoor Group is an association that exists to represent the common interests of the European outdoor industry. The EOG was founded in 2003 by 19 of the world’s largest outdoor companies, who recognised the need for a cohesive, cross border approach to representation of the outdoor sector. In a world of increasing internationalism, legislation, environment, the media and trade are all now multinational by nature. The combined strength of our members, and a close cooperation with national outdoor associations, provides us with an extremely powerful force to represent the European outdoor industry in a constructive and positive manner. The EOG strongly believes that increased participation in outdoor sports will benefit both individuals and society as a whole. We share a vision with many others in our industry, to encourage people of all ages and in all locations to be active outdoors.

Last week, our team visited Cambridge, to check out some of the venues that we will be using this year, and finalise aspects of the event. We're really excited about welcoming you to the city and the very special buildings and locations that will host the summit. Our main venue will be the oldest debating society in the world, The Cambridge Union, which has hosted figures such as Winston Churchill, Theodore Roosevelt and the current Dalai Lama. In contrast, our networking dinner will be hosted at The Tivoli, which began life as a cinema in 1925, before being converted into a pub in the 1950s, and these days offers a unique social experience in the heart of Cambridge, boasting a roof terrace with great views, mini golf, shuffleboards, and amazing food and drink. Throughout the summit, not only will you enjoy a full and varied programme of on-point content, but you'll experience the wide range of what Cambridge has to offer as a city. In preparing for this year’s European Outdoor Summit (EOS), we have been working with the faculty at Cambridge Judge Business School to develop a programme that covers some wider business topics that are relevant to the outdoor sector. We have lined up speakers who will explore some of these in the context of our industry. Historically, financial reporting standards have specified how firms measure, summarise, and disclose their performance in financial statements. Now, increased demand for climate and sustainability related information about firms, has led to more scrutiny of existing disclosures, significant developments in disclosure regulations, and a broad re-thinking of the ecosystem of information. Mike Willis, Management Practice Associate Professor / Executive Master of Accounting Programme Director at the business school, will provide a comprehensive, global overview of these new reporting requirements and identify potential paths forward. Since early 2023, the European Outdoor Group (EOG) and the BSI - Bundesverband der Deutschen Sportartikelindustrie e.V. have been running a Sustainability Data Exchange Project (SDEX). We are delighted to announce that following ongoing feedback from retail and brand partners, we have improved the questionnaire and have developed version 2.0. We will officially release the new version during a webinar on Wednesday 24th July at 15:00 BST / 16:00 CEST (1hour) and we would like to invite all industry and retail partners to join us, regardless of whether they have already used the SDEX questionnaire before or not. During the event Katy Stevens and Maïté Angleys will present the changes made to the questionnaire, give an overview of the next steps and have time to answer questions from the participants. The final webinar in our Material Facts series takes place this afternoon, delivered in partnership with the Bundesverband der Deutschen Sportartikel-Industrie e.V. (BSI) and Rab. The series is for apparel brands and retailers, and breaks down the Rab Material Facts methodology. Equip Outdoor Technologies’ team will demonstrate how this open-source platform aligns with the Sustainability Data Exchange (SDEX) project in Europe and will ultimately reduce workload and increase access to standardised sustainability data. Through retail and ingredients partners, the webinars show how we must drive collaboration and engagement across the outdoor industry to address a common problem and advance a solution that both addresses our sustainability data requirements, and future proofs against coming legislation. Today, you can join Material Facts: Zips, Trims + Total Calculations at 15:00 BST. The session will explain how to complete the Material Facts template by adding the zips and trims data, and attendees will also hear from a leading trims supplier. You will finish the session with a complete Material Facts table for your test product. Next month, we will host a webinar by ORTOVOX - 'Supply Chain Monitoring Systems' The German Supply Chain Act has been in place since January 2023 and obligates German brands to monitor not only TIER 1, but also their deeper supply chains. As a result, ORTOVOX has developed a monitoring concept to fulfil its due diligence in an efficient and resource-saving way. The concept contains a framework for categorising suppliers into three performance levels, considering social and environmental aspects and an automated data query process for them. This webinar will explain the concept and give more details on how it can be used by a brand and corresponding suppliers.
