Great to see Impact Investing so prominently displayed at the 20th SECA - Swiss Private Equity & Corporate Finance Association annual conference yesterday at SIX Convention Point in Zurich👏🏻💚! This year‘s conference topic was „Value Creation through Innovation“ and Uli Grabenwarter from the European Investment Fund (EIF) brought it to the point in his great speech and in his wake-up call that „there is no value creation without sustainability“. The SECA also launched its very first Impact Investing Survey 2024. Great step in the right direction and towards the much needed systemic shift to a regenerative- and circular economy. Together in this diverse group of experts including locals and nextGens :), we were envisioning the tomorrow of La Punt and the larger region. We immersed ourselves into different characters (people, buildings and natural persons like rivers or forests) and discussed and deleloped positive solutions how the life in La Punt might look like in 2040. Also including harsh realities - namely that we currently are far off the 1.5 degree goal (limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees by 2030). Thanks so much dear Prof Sonia Senevirante for your expertise and insights! What makes me hopeful are the deeply transformative environmental and social solutions that i see every day that have the power to make the systemic shift towards a regenerative and circular economy a reality with impact investments. We kicked off with a powerful keynote on "The Sustainability Imperative" by Jean-François Manzoni and Prof. Karl Schmedders (with a super insightful presentation) setting the tone for the day. 🚀 A highlight for me was the panel discussion, "From Seed to Profit: The Role of Investors in Fostering Green Fintech Success," featuring insights from Nikolaus Guido, Oliver Marchand, Oliver Yorke and Gerrit Sindermann. Their collective wisdom shed light on how investors communities can drive the growth of green fintech ventures. 🔍 The day continued with thought-provoking sessions: "From Compliance to Competence: Enhancing Efficiency in Sustainable Finance Frameworks" by Prof. Dr. Beat Affolter and Prof. Salvatore Cantale. 💡 Startup pitches showcased innovative solutions in sustainable finance, regulation, and ESG reporting with companies like AxessImpact, Pelt8, Sustainaccount, and Swisox leading the way. Prof. Suzanne de Treville highlighted "The Business Benefits of the Green Transition" and how we can navigate the shift towards green business practices profitably. She presented a practical case, and it was just incredible to see how circularity in business and local production can increase revenues and profits. I remember one of my clases at the University of Lausanne - UNIL We also saw incredible pitches from startups focusing on climate change in supply chains and transition risks, featuring Correntics, Frigg, Pyrpose, and Scandens. Here are some highlights I’m thrilled to share: 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐟𝐞́ We explored the powerful impacts of connecting generations on individuals, businesses, and society. Moriz Piffl-Percevic and Ms. Doris from Vienna's Generation Café Vollpension demonstrated the value of intergenerational exchange and support through live interactions. Julia Krenmayr, congrats, great project! 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 It was inspiring to listen to industry leaders like Karl "Charly" Kleissner, Philipp Essl, and Lisa Kleissner. Their work with Toniic, the KL Felicitas Foundation, and Better Society Capital emphasized the importance of systemic approaches in impact investing. 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐢𝐭𝐬 Erwin Stahl, Sebastian Klein, Kristin Siegel, Taly Nechushtan, and Rune Theill shared their experiences in creating meaningful exits that maximize impact. Their stories highlighted how strategic exits can drive significant positive change. 𝐓𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 - 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 In this interactive workshop, Marc Mertens, Logan Smalley, Gabriele Tatzberger, and Amira Awad guided us through identifying and developing our most impactful ideas. The session provided an excellent opportunity to reflect on personal experiences and learn how to present them effectively. Additionally, we (all participants) received a free seat in TED's official public speaking course! Engaging with such a diverse group of leaders and changemakers was incredibly enriching. I’m looking forward to applying these insights and collaborations to drive further positive impact.
