Similar to GDPR, the law in Quebec on Personal Data Protection affects any business doing business with individuals in the province. It's important to note that many provinces / states are considering to follow by adopting similar laws to GDPR. It's common sense that our personal data should remain confidential or at least, the use and publication should be approved by the person concerned. Imo, the best, easiest and most cost effective place to start as a business is to offer a way to secure the email. Emails remain the number 1 communication solution used in entreprise. Navigating funding has never been more challenging for startups, but it's also brimming with opportunities for those ready to adapt. Our very own Chief EiR Alex Thibault speaks to this in his latest article about what Canadian startups should expect. In summary: ▶ Startups are waiting longer to raise their first round, leading to larger initial investments. ▶ Seed rounds have nearly quadrupled in the last decade. ▶ The average time between a startup's first and second raise remains steady at 2 years. ▶ The ratio of 'series A and beyond' rounds to 'seed' rounds has declined. Mathieu Germain has joined Korbit as our new VP of GenAI! 🚀🚀🚀 I'm so excited and humbled at the same time. Mathieu is an engineering leader without equal in Canada's ML ecosystem! He has been tackling some of the hardest problems across software engineering, natural language processing and computer vision while transforming research work into real-world applications. Mathieu was a former engineering leader of Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute's R&D arm, which he helped build from scratch and where he led teams of up to 20 ML engineers to design, build and deploy systems for startups and Fortune 500 companies. He was also the former VP of AI at horoma AI deploying computer vision systems (drone and satellite imagery) for solving agriculture and environmental problems for companies across the Americas (US, Canada and South America) 🛰️ I worked with Mathieu many years ago during my PhD on different projects. One of our biggest successes was when together with Amazon we rolled out the Milabot conversational system to 10,000+ households. We later won the NIPS (now NeurIPS) competition award for it. Those were thrilling and fun times, and I can't wait to see what we're going to build together now!
