Thrilled to have had the opportunity to be the speaker at the "Roadmapping Your Product: From Concept to Execution" workshop, hosted by the Science Discovery Zone (SDZ) at Toronto Metropolitan University. 🌟 It was truly inspiring to engage with the talented students in SDZ's new student-focused incubator program, Momentum. These future entrepreneurs are delving into the essentials of startup life, learning about assumption testing, customer discovery, business model canvases, elevator pitching, and more. During the session, we shared Fibra's product development journey, highlighting: How the initial concept evolves into the final product delivered to customers. The critical stages of development, from Proof of Concept to MVP, Alpha, and Beta versions, with Fibra's story as an example. The significance of these stages for investors and customers, and their impact on creating a successful roadmap. It was a rewarding experience to contribute to the students' learning journey and see their passion for entrepreneurship. I'm regularly approached with questions about how organizations can partner with the DMZ. Last week at the DMZ was spectacular, showcasing the vibrant and diverse ways our partners contribute to nurturing the next wave of tech innovation. We had the pleasure of hosting esteemed companies like SOTI, FDM Group, Prep Doctors®, Cheil Worldwide and PORCH 💚 for our Newcomers Entrepreneurship Program, each bringing unique insights and opportunities. Thanks to Andrew Ranjan, Danny Eid, and Anna Adamczyk from Career, Co-op & Student Success Centre at Toronto Metropolitan University for helping bring these fantastic partners together. With our DMZ Connect program, Ai Yamauchi and Asami Okusawa from Marubeni Corporation and Lindsay Finneran-Gingras and Matthew Wiens from Propel Holdings took a hands-on approach, conducting 1:1 office hours sessions with some of our fantastic startups, Vaultt, OPTT Health, Loba, Asset Direct, Soundspace, BizBridge.io, and SpotWorks. A special highlight was Robert Alzuarde from Pomerleau, part of our DMZ Connect Program, who hosted a workshop on building an MVP. Additionally, Alex Wilson from Fook Communications emphasized the importance of focusing on brand-building as early as possible. These workshops were attended by 70 student-led startups from our Basecamp program, with fantastic energy and engagement throughout! And let’s not forget the remarkable Monique Miller from Unilever, who graced our panel at the Black Innovation Breakfast. Her insights were genuinely inspiring and underscored the power of diversity and innovation. These are just a few examples of how our partners can get involved and make a significant impact. Yesterday a group of 30 international counsellors visited Toronto Metropolitan University as a stop on the International Association of College Admission Counselling (ACAC) Bus Tour. Hosted by the International Student Enrolment, Education & Inclusion team, counsellors attended a presentation at the Mattamy Athletic Centre and participated in a campus tour. Zone Learning had the opportunity to speak to the audience about our skill building programs for students, and how we help foster a culture of innovation at TMU. Shoutout to Madeleine Driscoll, a recent Biomedical Sciences grad and member of the Science Discovery Zone, for sharing the experience of her journey through TMU and our programs.
