Following persistent advocacy, in April of this year the Ontario government shifted its position on declaring IPV an epidemic and agreed to support a private members bill, Bill 173: Intimate Partner Violence Epidemic Act through second reading. However, the Bill’s progress has been slowed by its deferral to the Justice Policy Committee for further review. Our Director of Advocacy and Communication, Jasmine Ramze Rezaee and Manager of Advocacy, Sami Pritchard wrote an op-ed for the Toronto Star discussing the importance of addressing this epidemic of violence with the urgency it requires. Happy international non-binary peoples Day, #HamONT – it is day to celebrate all beautiful and amazing non-Binary identities and all the folks who do not conform to the gender binary. Alongside the celebrations, it is also a day to advocate for the rights and safety of non-binary folks. Gender Identities should not be assumed by appearance alone, normalize asking for pronouns or using gender-neutral pronouns when referring to someone. Try using words like “folks” or “friends” or “everyone” to foster inclusivity and make all identities feel welcomed! If you are looking for support or community, please reach out to Speqtrum; they provide programming and support to Two-Spirit LGBTQIA+ youth in Hamilton. 💛🤍💜🖤 #InternationalNonBinaryPeoplesDay #Speqtrum
