Joe works with our Special Care Unit, a harm-reduction housing program, Supportive Housing, and outreach programs helping those living in encampments find housing. Joe meets clients in their most vulnerable moments, offering a non-judgmental, client-centered approach. He embodies our core values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Empowerment every day. Yesterday, we received a visit from Hamilton Mountain MP Lisa Hepfner, MCM! Lisa had the opportunity to visit our Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) and Special Care Unit (SCU) with our CEO, Rashed Afif MSW, RSW. She met some of Wesley's youngest newcomers to Canada and SCU resident Sue, who lost everything in a fire several months ago and lived outside before coming to Wesley. Thanks to our supporters and funders, the children can be excited about starting school in Canada this fall, and Sue now has a nice, safe room of her own and people who care. At Wesley EarlyOn Centres, we're privileged to witness incredible journeys like Nakoa's. Originally from the Bahamas, Nakoa and her husband started their new lives in Canada just over a year ago, with baby Leon joining their family soon after. As part of this commitment, we undertake the ongoing project of Indigenizing Wesley’s policies, procedures and practices, which involves listening to Indigenous peoples, acknowledging the truth and legacy of colonization, and integrating lessons learned from accounts of intergenerational trauma relayed by Indigenous survivors.
