In recent years, the frequency and severity of forest fires have intensified, posing significant threats to biodiversity, ecosystem stability, and human livelihoods. As forests struggle to recover from these devastating events, the availability of high-quality tree seeds emerges as a linchpin for effective restoration, resilience-building efforts and high quality carbon credits. Join Seedark on June 27th at 12pm EST for our event: "How Forest Fires are Reshaping the Supply Chain." Our esteemed panelists including Kat Williams, MBA and Felicia Froton will share their insights and experiences, addressing key questions such as: What are the current bottlenecks and vulnerabilities within the tree seed supply chain, particularly in the aftermath of forest fires? How can we enhance collaboration and coordination among stakeholders to ensure timely access to seeds? What innovative strategies and technologies are emerging to improve preparedness as well as seed collection, storage, and propagation? What policy frameworks and investment mechanisms are needed to foster a more resilient and sustainable tree seed supply chain? Whether you're a researcher, practitioner, policymaker, or advocate, this panel offers a unique opportunity to engage with leading voices in the field, exchange ideas, and chart a path forward towards a more resilient future for our forests and communities. RSVP now to secure your spot! https://lnkd.in/g25F5aqj #SupplyChainResilience #forestfire #generationrestoration #ForestFires #SeedarkEvent

Last week our work in creating Squiirrel, an app to support the development of a healthy supply of native seed, was featured by UpLink - World Economic Forum in a post about the International Day for Biological Diversity. It is wonderful to have this recognition and to share it with Treeapp, SankalpTaru Foundation and Terrasos. But, more than anything, we hope that projects like Squiirrel can inspire others to imagine new ways to see and do things that can unlock ecological potential but also economic potential. And it is that kind of imaginative thinking that is at the core of the work we are doing at Wilder Climate Solutions. So if you're a business who is interested in celebrating and supporting the natural world, let's make something that will make a difference. Thanks to the core collaborators who worked so hard to make Squiirrel a reality: Julian Caspari, Subhadra Menon, Adam Rourke, Rami Gabra, Victoria McIntyre, Lina Greenman, Karen Short and many, many others.

  • For those who may have missed last week's Speakers Series event 'An International Crisis for Seed: A Global Challenge', we wanted to share the conversation between Eduardo Malta Campos Filho from INSR, Eve Allen from Ecological Health Network and Matthew Aghai from Mast Reforestation. The discussion was powerful and we encourage you to take a listen. Some key takeaways: 1. People working in the space need more time and resources. 2. We also have to find ways to reduce risk; perhaps, finding ways to develop contracts that include prepayments and avoidance of risk especially for collectors. 3. Improved subsidies from governments will help grow capacity and address big bottlenecks as we move through a period of great transition.

  • What does it mean to truly value seeds and the life they represent? How can we cultivate a deeper sense of reverence and respect for seeds and their role in sustaining life? In what ways does our current relationship with seeds reflect our broader relationship with the natural world? The human relationship to seeds is vital for the preservation of biodiversity, the restoration of ecosystems, the promotion of food security, the preservation of cultural heritage, and the mitigation of climate change. Philosophically, our relationship with seed prompts reflection on our ethical responsibilities, our interconnectedness with nature, questions of justice across generations, the pursuit of harmony with the natural world, and the quest for identity and meaning in our relationship with the environment. Please join us for our next event in the Seed Speaker Series. This free event will be held virtually on April 25th at 12pm EST. Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gdzfj3GJ

  • We cannot wait for this Friday's event featuring the incredible voices of Matthew Aghai, Eve Allen and Eduardo Malta Campos Filho on the status and availability of seed. Moderated by Julian Caspari, this promises to be an incredibly rich conversation with global perspectives about the future of seed and what's needed to get together to solve for restoration at scale. The first in an ongoing series, we hope you'll consider attending and helping to spread the word. The event is virtual (and free) and everyone is welcome. Sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gqTAGVPf

  • If you want to replant a healthy forest after a fire, you have to rebuild the supply chain. And the very first thing you need is...seeds. We are loving this The New York Times coverage of the challenges (and opportunities) facing the reforestation and restoration sectors and are especially happy to see some excellent ink for our friends at Mast Reforestation and PRT Growing Services Ltd. For the last 2 years we've been deeply enmeshed in the work of modernizing the seed supply chain and with tools like Squiirrel we feel like we're getting somewhere. It's heartening to see seeds being acknowledged as the very essence of hope and possibility, encapsulating the potential to transform burned and barren landscapes back into lush forests, and to see that emerging carbon markets are successfully putting a value on nature. So much work to do still, but we're on our way!

In the early half of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and The Bonn Challenge, there is a global need for 1.9 billion tons of native seed. Yes, you read that correctly, 1.9 BILLION TONS of seed. The Bureau of Land Management, alone, estimates that it needs at least 500,000 tons of seed. And, despite moving quickly toward the acquisition of the seed needed to restore global ecosystems, we are still significantly behind in terms of getting that seed into production. Join us for the first conversation, in an ongoing series, about the work being done to champion and scale access to native seed, across the globe. The first event, on April 12th will include three powerful champions of seed from different geographies who are working in unique ways to help solve the challenge. We are pleased to welcome Matthew Aghai from Mast Reforestation, Eve Allen from Ecological Health Network and Eduardo Malta Campos Filho from Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) for this dynamic and important discussion. Registration is free and sign up details are here: https://lnkd.in/gqTAGVPf Please pass it on and see you there!  #generationrestoration #unep #seed #nativeseed

  • Last week we had the incredible opportunity to participate in the @villarsinstitute summit in Villars, Switzerland. This annual gathering of 250 experts, entrepreneurs, investors and philanthropists is aimed addressing the climate and biodiversity crises, holistically though interdisciplinary cooperation. The goal of the meeting is to accelerate global systems change to get where we need to go, faster. At times the message was heavy. As a world economy and global society, we are woefully behind on the work that is needed to unlock a net zero future and preserve biodiversity, but the overriding sentiment was one of hope. There are many people committed to the intelligent discourse, brave leadership and collaboration needed to accomplish the results we need. There’s big work to be done and it’s going to take all of us. We have returned to Canada more committed than ever to apply ourselves to the evolution necessary and we’re looking for the like-minded with whom we can link arms and move forward. Massive thanks to The Villars Institute, the Uplink team and the amazing community of Top Innovators who have inspired us beyond our wildest dreams.
