We believe in art! We believe in its power in creating and nurturing communities; in unleashing possibilities and discovering oneself; in inspiring and creating; in making equitable cities; and in leading innovation and our well-being. We believe in our artists. We believe in Toronto. We believe that art has far-reaching impacts, that art is at the core of our experiences, and that the future of Toronto, its economic, social and cultural prosperity, is intertwined with art. Join us, as we launch our ‘Believe in Art’ campaign to mark 50 years of TAC’s impact. We invite you to engage with this prompt and let us know what ‘Believe in Art’ means to you. Together, let’s Believe in Art. #TAC50 #BelieveInArt Featuring: Toes for Dance at LeeLifeson (2023), JAYU Canada (2022), Ziska Louis performing Russell’s World for Young People’s Theatre (2022), Rosa’s Flowers (2022) and Nickeshia Garrick performing To My Past Present Future for Dusk Dances (Dahlia Katz, 2022).

As a community-led organization, it was important to launch our 50th anniversary in a public, celebratory way, giving an opportunity for the public to interact with art and our staff. Here, we're highlighting the community activations that happened throughout Luminato in the Square during our Community Celebration: Picnic table painting with Philip Cote and Monica Wickeler, tote bag screen-printing with Rachael Dodgson, a Believe in Art chalkboard and button-making with TAC staff. Seeing old friends, meeting new ones and witnessing the power of the arts to bring people together and inspire joy was definitely a highlight for us with this event. Let us know in the comments about the last arts experience that left you feeling happy. #TAC50 #BelieveInArt Video Description: Pictures from various community activations at our 50th anniversary celebration. Established in 1974, Toronto Arts Council was created to give the City a role in enhancing the quality of life in Toronto through the arts. 50 years later, with over $420M invested to bolster creativity, we're launching a ‘Believe in Art’ campaign to highlight the significance of art to people’s lives and to a caring, vibrant city. Beginning next week until the end of the year, we're spotlighting just some of the people and organizations that have shaped Toronto through the arts, as well as those who are working hard to build a stronger tomorrow, by connecting us together today. On our 50th anniversary, Toronto Arts Council is proud to say 'We Believe in Art.' Throughout our campaign, we encourage you to think about what art means to you and our city. #BelieveInArt #TAC50 Video description: Images of various TAC funded artists and arts organizations, followed by text, ‘Over 50 years, TAC has disbursed over $420M to Toronto artists and arts organizations. We believe in art.’

Ever wondered about the difference between Toronto Arts Council and Toronto Arts Foundation? How do these two organizations work together and separately? What resources do they share? For the first time, we have a joint annual report between the Council and the Foundation, that addresses some of these questions we’ve been asked many times. Here is a quote from Kelly Langgard, Director & CEO, Toronto Arts Council and Foundation from the annual report: “This joint report highlights the impact and achievements of both organizations, signalling a future of increased collaboration between TAC and the Foundation as we build on our shared commitment to the creative power and potential of Toronto artists and communities.” Access the 2023 Annual Report below to get in depth understanding of the working of these two organizations: https://bit.ly/3xAWIwY #TorontoArts #AnnualReport #TorontoArtsCouncil #TorontoArtsFoundation

Toronto Arts Council (TAC) and Toronto Arts Foundation board, staff, and stakeholders gathered on June 19, 2024, for our joint Annual General Meeting. We celebrated the achievements of the 2023/24 fiscal year, thanked our outgoing directors, and reaffirmed our commitment to supporting the arts. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our outgoing directors for their incredible contributions. Your dedication and volunteerism have been invaluable in helping us serve the Toronto arts community. Devyani Saltzman, who served as President on TAC’s board over the past year, is stepping down from this role but will remain on TAC’s board as an at-large member. “I just want to say what a pleasure it has been to serve as the President of Toronto Arts Council. It's been such a highlight to be able to be in this role through the mayoral elections and be part of deputations to City Council to increase and sustain funding for Toronto artists.” Amanda Hancox joined TAC’s Dance Committee in 2016 and served as Chair of the Committee between 2018-2024. “I learned so much over the last eight years at TAC. So much from my peers, so much from the artists that we work with and just so proud of all the work that the TAC and the Foundation do.” Richard Paquet has volunteered with both TAC and the Foundation for ten years, first joining the Foundation board as Vice President in 2014, and later joining TAC’s board in 2018. “Thank you for allowing me to sit on the board of both the Foundation and the Council. These are two extremely important organizations who will carry us forward and help this very important community.” Maxine Bailey joined the TAC board in 2020 and served as Chair of the Large Institutions Committee, overseeing the transfer of major organizations to TAC’s portfolio. At the AGM, Celia Smith, Chair, TAC Board, noted bailey’s initiative in ensuring organizational leadership and equity implementations within the Large Institutions portfolio.  Thank you to our Board Members for their support of the arts in Toronto!
