About us

Created as a joint initiative between The Travel Corporation’s family of brands, The TreadRight Foundation is a not-for-profit that works to help ensure the environment and communities we visit remain vibrant and preserved for generations to come. To date, TreadRight has donated more than USD 2.5 million to sustainable tourism projects worldwide. TreadRight’s guiding principle is to encourage sustainable tourism development through conservation, leadership and support for communities. We encourage each of our partners to use this principle to guide all of their actions, whether at our regional offices or when taking guests around the world. By providing grants to organisations that encourage sustainability in different destinations, we hope to maintain the natural attractions across the world that define each unique region. Foundation priorities are set by the Steering Committee, which includes sustainability leaders like Céline Cousteau and Costas Christ. TreadRight’s past project partners include WWF, Conservation International and The National Trust in the UK. Current initiatives include sponsoring the National Geographic Society’s inaugural “World Legacy Awards,” WildAid and inspiring wildlife advocates like Terri Irwin. Check out my latest video of the Rainforest Rescue Community Tree Planting and let me know what you think of this heart felt poem! 2024 marks the 25th Anniversary of Rainforest Rescue. It's a milestone that we could never have dreamed of reaching without the support of a growing number of incredible, passionate and dedicated people who give so much to protect and restore our planet's natural environment. 2024 is also the 9th year that our Annual Community Tree Planting has taken place at NightWings Rainforest Centre, a beautiful slice of lowland habitat that is gradually being restored intro tropical rainforest. Just south of the Daintree River, NightWings was once sugar cane fields. Now, it is a thriving place of native wildlife and flourishing plants. Through an original poem, NightWings owner Annie Schoenberger expresses her gratitude to everybody who has contributed to the restoration of the rainforest. Annie's Poem is a reminder to us all that together we can achieve amazing outcomes for the environment and wild species. From everyone at Rainforest Rescue, we express our deepest gratitude to all who made the Tree Planting Day such a success. Beyond this, we extend our thanks to those who have and continue to support Rainforest Rescue in protecting and restoring the Daintree Rainforest. The best time to make a difference, is now. Our Chief Sustainability Officer and Head of The TreadRight Foundation, Shannon Guihan, was a panelist at Phocuswright Europe earlier this month in Barcelona, Spain. The Panel entitled 'A Win Win for Tourism-Balancing Culture and the Economy,' discussed the dichotomy of tourism in producing both an economic win and an erosion to the quality of local life for a destination. Shannon was joined in the discussion by Travalyst CEO, Sally Davey, and Visit Barcelona CEO, Mateu Hernandez Maluquer.

TTC + Rainforest Rescue 🌏 🌱 When you work for, partner with or travel with The Travel Corporation and their brands like Adventure World, you play a vital role in restoring and protecting the Daintree Rainforest - the world's oldest continuous living rainforest and Australia’s largest and most biodiverse. On May 18th, TTC staff from all brands and areas of Australia joined forces help celebrate Rainforest Rescue's 25th birthday! 🎂 We were boots deep in the mud; planting approximately 2,400 native trees of varying species, connecting with locals and fellow eco warriors while getting a hands on experiencing contributing to the on-going good we do through The TreadRight Foundation. 🌏 Rainforest Rescue works hand-in-hand with traditional landowners to purchase, protect and restore parts of the Daintree Rainforest that are vulnerable to the risk of private purchase and development. In 2023 the TreadRight Foundation contributed to the purchase and lifelong protection of Lot 17 – 8,000 sq meters of threatened Daintree rainforest which is responsible for storing 207 tonnes of carbon in the above-ground forest biomass. This work is just one of the nature based solutions supported by The TreadRight Foundation's Carbon Fund, and part of it's sustainability strategy. - 🚌 🏝 Before and after our planting, we had the privilege of being hosted by Down Under Tours Australia to experience even more of the magic Far North Queensland has to offer. Where we explored…. 🌱 Cattana Wetlands - a stunningly beautiful and peaceful natural preserve that was once a sugar cane farm 🌱 Nightwings Rainforest Centre - where we planted our trees and learned more about the people and animals that protect this delicate eco-system 🌱 Rainforest Rescue Nursery - witnessing seeds become saplings, as expert botanists work hand-in-hand with the local people to gather, study and raise diverse species of plants until they are hardy enough to be planted in their rainforest home 🌱 Lot 17 - TTC’s very own protected patch of the Daintree 🌱 Mossman Gorge - heaven on earth and an opportunity to connect with the Kuku Yulanji people - learning about their daily lives, traditions and relationship to the land and animals of the rainforest Big thank you to the Walubarra, Djaybugay, Yirrganydji and Kuku Yulanji people who call these areas home - who welcomed us to tread light and tread right as we visited. Thank you to our passionate hosts at Erin and Joe from Down Under Tours Australia - who have been hospitable, educational and inspiring - your new coaches were a dream to travel in! Be sure to stay connected to Rainforest Rescue and Down Under Tours Australia so you too can explore everything Far North Queensland to offer and to plant a rainforest yourself! 📷 Some of these image credits go to Martin Stringer Film & Photography

Key Account Manager - TTC Tour Brands

Tomas Malmberg, myself and 12 other TTC Staff from all our wonderful brands. Had the opportunity to volunteer in support of 25th Anniversary Tree Planting Day with Rainforest Rescue Organisation in Far North Queensland. The Travel Corporation and our non-for-profit organisation The TreadRight Foundation, are proud platinum sponsors of Rainforest Rescue. Along with many local volunteers, we planted approximately 2,400 native rainforest trees in a tract of lower Daintree land which will become a wildlife corridor in years to come. It meant alot to me being involved and I look forward to next year's tree planting day 🌳 A kind message from the CEO of Rainforest Rescue 🫶 “Thanks to TTC and the TreadRight Foundation another piece of the Cape Kimberley wildlife corridor is in place, ensuring forever access to essential habitat for the rare and threatened species of the Daintree rainforest. This partnership is a perfect example of ethical business going the extra mile to protect nature. Huge thanks from all of us!” – Branden Barber, CEO, Rainforest Rescue You can read more here about our partnership - https://lnkd.in/g5DDTfz6

For us at TTC, every day is #EarthDay, but today we're celebrating the people and innovations that are impacting our industry, and our environment, for the better. Thanks to our Carbon Fund and Gerco Don, our brand Atlas Reisen has installed an HVO fuel tank at its coach depot in Stellendam, Netherlands. Atlas Reisen owns and houses coaches for our brands in Europe, including Contiki. The tank can hold a total of 40,000 litres of HVO fuel. We expect our total Scope 1 emissions reductions to be between 30-40% at the end of the year, which we're looking forward to reporting on in our 2024 Impact Report. Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel is a sustainable biofuel alternative produced from renewable feedstocks such as waste fats, oils and greases. Compared to regular diesel, HVO fuel can reduce emissions by up to 94%. Our Carbon Fund is empowering our journey to #netzero by financing the decarbonization our business. It is a central fund contributed to by our family of brands and dedicated to investing in the reduction of our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. #maketravelmatter #earthday2024

Happy #EarthDay! Today we’re celebrating our beautiful planet, its rich wildlife, and the caretakers dedicated to protecting them. Recently, our Down Under Tours Australia team had the privilege of learning from the Rainforest Rescue nursery team on Eastern Kuku Yalanji country. Our partner, Rainforest Rescue, is rescuing and restoring the precious Daintree Rainforest in Australia. "It’s inspiring to witness the remarkable work being done there – from seed collection to trees in the ground," noted Erin Simpson, General Manager, Down Under Tours. "The expertise in ensuring right tree, right place, right time is truly remarkable and achieves such a high success rate." With 172 species under their care, the nursery will produce 100,000 trees this year alone for their rescue and restoration projects. One such project is Lot 17 - the invaluable plot of rainforest that The TreadRight Foundation supported in purchasing and rescuing. Erin added: “we also had the opportunity to explore Kuranji Bubu (Cassowary country), where we appreciated the transformation over the past 14 years. What was once a rubbish dump and the site of the oil palm plantations of Port Douglas is now a thriving ecosystem. The restoration efforts here are truly incredible and right next door to our lunch venue for our Daintree & Cape Tribulation Day tour!” Thank you to Rainforest Rescue for all that you’re doing for the planet 💚 Our team is looking forward to joining Rainforest Rescue’s annual tree planting day next month, which will also be a celebration of the organization’s 25th anniversary! #EarthDay #EarthDay2024 #EarthMonth #EarthMonth2024 #maketravelmatter
