    The accounting industry is long overdue for a makeover. Frankly, I’m surprised it’s taken this long. What we need, now more than ever, is a new image. A new brand. A new philosophy. Gone are the days of: - Suits and ties - Boring, dull, monotony - Social awkwardness - Obsession with profit over people (I’m looking at you, Big 4) - Working nights and weekends - The “Big 4 or bust” mentality - Time tracking - The hourly billing model It’s time to usher in a new era for Accounting.     EY is raising accountants salaries by over 10%. Pay for early-career accountants will also increase. It's part of a $1 billion, 3-year plan to attract accountants. EY will continue increasing salaries for the next 2 years. Higher wages from EY will pressure smaller firms to follow. EY aims to attract top students from US business schools. Addressing the shrinking pool of accounting graduates is crucial. "We needed to invest significantly," said Dante D’Egidio, EY vice chair. This move tackles the wage gap between accounting and finance graduates. The industry faces a talent crisis due to generational shifts. Regulators and leaders push for higher pay and expanded CPA pathways. Accountants today need more than knowledge of debits and credits. They must understand technology tools and geopolitical risks. EY’s investment includes more training for these challenges. EY plans to rotate young staff across assignments for diverse skills. This builds on the $3.5 billion spent on compensation. Competitors have also increased wages, targeting new recruits. About 2,600 incoming staff will benefit from EY's pay scale changes. The exact allocation of the $1 billion isn't detailed but includes compensation. -- P.S.
