As we approach the end of #PrideMonth, members of our team got the chance to participate in our Kits for Cause program.  We once again partnered with Friends of Ruby, a non-profit organization that supports 2SLGBTQIA+ communities experiencing housing insecurity.🌈 Members of our team got together in our Ottawa and Toronto offices to pack up kits with essential care items and thoughtfully handwritten notes, to support these individuals, many of whom are youths. It’s a great way to foster meaningful connections while giving back to the community. This year, our kits will help 285 young people who identify as part of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities – talk about the power of community and compassion! 🫶 Here at Altis, we’re dedicated to celebrating diversity and inclusion every day of the year and work towards keeping the spirit of pride alive, not only during June but 365 days a year. Elevating leadership at The Art of Leadership Women! 🚀 Last Thursday and Friday, members of our team were able to attend The Art of Leadership Women event in both Ottawa and Toronto. The energy in the room was palpable as world leaders, business icons, bestselling authors, academics, influencers, and role models shared their personal stories, life lessons, and perspectives on global events. We learned so many engaging and actionable insights, but we thought we'd share a few of our top takeaways: Denise Hamilton kicked off the event by challenging us to rethink our assumptions. "Don’t believe everything you think."🧠 To be great leaders, we must challenge our thinking, stay curious, and embrace change for innovation and evolution. Dr. Mary Murphy then delved into the growth vs. fixed mindset. She encouraged us to nurture our growth mindset for continuous learning and development. 🌱 Embracing this mindset allows us to evolve and grow in all aspects of our lives. Dr. Roberta Bondar, the first Canadian woman to go to space, inspired us with her insights on exploring new frontiers. 👩🚀 Keeping an open mind and staying curious about others' perspectives enhances our ability to communicate effectively. Zahra AlHarazi-Schmidt offered a fascinating perspective on the traits that define us. She explained that we all possess inherited traits, learned traits, personality traits, and character traits.  These traits not only shape who we are but also offer pathways for growth. Embracing what makes us different is what makes us truly interesting. 🌟 Sophie Grégoire Trudeau wrapped up with a focus on mental health, highlighting the importance of resetting with breathing exercises. 😌 Her talk was a powerful reminder to prioritize our mental well-being and remain mindful of our thoughts and emotions. Huge thanks to all five of these incredible women for sharing their wisdom. We can’t wait to put these takeaways into practice and for our West Coast team members to get to experience The Art of Leadership Women Vancouver next week. Here’s a story of how a great idea + endless determination + unbelievable energy came together to spark positive change in Indigenous communities nationwide.   Recently we spoke with social entrepreneur Sunshine Tenasco, who shared her incredible tale of launching and growing Pow Wow Pitch — think Dragons’ Den for Indigenous entrepreneurs — to elevate the skills, confidence and success of aspiring Indigenous business owners. “When one of us wins, we all win,” she says.   She got the idea after she, herself, pitched to the Dragons in 2010, securing $20,000 in financing for her baby moccasin business and something even more valuable: confidence.   Chatting with us from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, the Algonquin First Nation in Quebec, where she was born and raised, Sunshine shared how Indigenous entrepreneurs benefit most when they can see a supportive, positive community rooting for them. “We are the ultimate cheerleaders,” she says. “Everyone who pitches leaves with more confidence than when they arrived.”   And that confidence is already paying dividends. Today, Indigenous business ownership is five times that of self-employed Canadians and contributes an estimated $30 billion annually to the economy (projected to grow to $100 billion by 2025). Ontario’s colleges and universities are brimming with talented young professionals – and last week, our team was busy connecting with new graduates and alumni at the first-ever Ottawa Graduating Student Summer Career Fair, organized by the University of Ottawa, in collaboration with Carleton University, Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology, and Collège La Cité. 🏛️🎓 Nancy Nau and Stephanie Castro, CPC, connected directly with more than 100 incredible grads from a wide variety of programs, all eager to learn about the opportunities and in-demand roles we’re seeing. We also shared some creative tips and savvy strategies for job hunting and connecting with hiring managers.
