Researchers at the University of Toronto made a significant advancement in developing vascularized cardiac tissues. Using the #IFlowPlate Platform, the team revealed the pivotal role of primitive macrophages in enhancing tissue functionality and establishing a stable, patent, and perfusable microvasculature within cardiac tissues. This work was validated across three different cultivation methods: 3D fibrin plugs, biowires, and the IFlowPlate. These findings offer vital insights into the interactions among various cell types during cardiac tissue development, paving the way for improved organ-on-a-chip technologies.
