Venture Capital and Private Equity Principals
Financial capacity-building built by women, for everyone.
About us
The story of Movement51 (M51) begins with its sister company, The51: a Financial Feminist™ platform and venture capital firm where current and aspiring investors (particularly women* and gender-diverse* individuals), come together to democratize access to capital for women and gender-diverse founders. As The51’s primary focus became feminist venture capital opportunities, Movement51 was founded as a non-profit arm, built to power the full and equal economic participation of women and gender-diverse people in the areas of entrepreneurship, investing and all things financial education and confidence. Since its inception, M51 has addressed financial inequalities through innovative educational programs like the Financial Feminism Investing Lab, community events, strategic partnerships with academic institutions like the University of Calgary, and like-minded non-profits, like the Canadian Women’s Foundation.

Say you found a nearly perfect professional development course. It's: 🟢 Interesting and challenging 🟢 Relevant to your current or aspirational role 🟢 Fits in your schedule with manageable timing ⚪ More than you can afford on your own Program fees and tuition can often make professional development take the backseat, but something to consider is that many employers recognize the value of investing in their employees' growth. Before you pass on a course or try to arrange ways to make it work out of pocket, it’s worth exploring if your company can sponsor the opportunity. Check out the full guide (including a request template that you can use specifically for the Financial Feminism Investing Lab) 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gbQh9RTa Haskayne School of Business, Haskayne Executive Education, University of Calgary #professionaldevelopment #sponsorship #learnhowtoinvest #financialeducation

Women-owned businesses receive just 2.8% of VC funding available worldwide. And yet, companies with a woman founder perform 63% better than all-male founding teams, and women influence a staggering 85% of consumer spending with their annual $20 trillion expenditure. What’s happening in pitch rooms that can explain why women receive such a small (nearly nonexistent) piece of the pie? 👩💼 66% of questions posed to female entrepreneurs are prevention-oriented, focusing on potential risks and losses, safety, responsibility, and vigilance. 👨💼 Flip the script and 67% of questions posed to male founders are based on promotion, focusing on growth potential, gains, achievements, and advancement. ❓ Entrepreneurs who field prevention questions raise an average of about seven times less than the average raised by entrepreneurs who are asked mostly promotion questions. So, what can we do about it? ⤵️ #vc #womenfounders #pitching
