Mandela Kuet, member of the external Steering Group, highlights the historical achievement of “A Roadmap for Transformative Change: Canada’s Black Justice Strategy”. This Report provides recommendations to combat anti-Black racism and systemic discrimination that has led to the overrepresentation of Black people in the criminal justice system, including as victims of crime. The Steering Group Report is an important milestone in the development of Canada's Black Justice Strategy, which will be grounded in the experiences of Black people in Canada, and will reflects the diverse histories, backgrounds, and regional realities of Black communities. Equality and justice are strengthened when we uphold the human rights of First Nations, Inuit and Métis. That’s why we’re continuing to incorporate the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act into federal laws and practices.
