We are investing $44 million to help small and medium businesses reduce emissions and lower energy costs through technologies, not taxes. Smaller businesses often face financial, timing and other barriers to implementing energy efficiency changes that would benefit their operations. Our investment will help 21 businesses get first-of-kind projects off the ground, including new technologies for power generation, agriculture, forestry, oil and gas, fertilizer, construction, electricity and other sectors. The funding, delivered through Emissions Reduction Alberta’s Emerging Innovators Challenge, will help create jobs, keep businesses competitive and reduce emissions. If successful, the 21 projects are projected to create more than 875 jobs, contribute $238 million to Alberta’s GDP by 2027 and eliminate 5 million tonnes of emissions by 2050. Remember to keep cool while working in the heat. If you spend time outdoors, know how to protect yourself and others. As with all hazards, employers must have a plan to address dangers associated with working in the heat. This can include: 🥵 having a cooling station where workers can rest 🧊 scheduling more physically demanding jobs for cooler times of the day 🥤 providing plenty of cool drinking water Learn more at https://lnkd.in/dBDniJBc

We’re working closely with Ontario through a new Memorandum of Understanding to create more opportunities for newcomers and fill gaps in the skilled labour market. We are looking to expand the list of international credentials we recognize in order to address labour gaps. At the same time, Ontario is seeking ways to improve labour supply and attract newcomers from outside Canada. Our provinces will work together to explore an international credential recognition framework for skilled trades that will support labour mobility and economic development. We’ll also look at creating more opportunities for journeypersons to upgrade their skills post-apprenticeship. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gSY69Qsb

We’re investing $15 million over five years to test technologies that will help reduce methane emissions at home and around the world. The Natural Gas Innovation Fund Accelerator’s Emission Testing Centre program will help more Alberta companies test technologies free of charge in both laboratory and live settings, which will help attract investors and get technologies to market faster. Alberta has already reduced methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by 45% since 2014, but new innovations are still needed. This funding will help get new technologies to market so we can continue to reduce emissions and create jobs. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g4rF4vEs
