Thanks to my friend Laura Tamblyn Watts, I’m on the best seller list in Canada! Her book, L𝑒𝑡'𝑠 𝑇𝑎𝑙𝑘 𝐴𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝐴𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑃𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠: 𝐴 𝑅𝑒𝑎𝑙-𝐿𝑖𝑓𝑒 𝐺𝑢𝑖𝑑𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑆𝑜𝑙𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑏𝑙𝑒𝑚𝑠 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 27 𝐸𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠, is a best-seller (I was honored to write the foreword) and here’s why: she gives us a warm, emotionally available guidebook for all families who are navigating this phase of life. Our AARP office was the first stop on Laura’s U.S. book tour and here are my top three takeaways: • 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬. Surprisingly, this book has been purchased the aging parents who want their kids to read it before trying to talk to them about getting older.  • 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝; 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩. Laura brings her warmth, humor and compassion to life in this book, and it helps to guide the reader through difficult situations with grace.  • 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞. Navigating the care for aging parents can feel really isolating. Here’s the thing - this book is a best seller because there are so many of us out there who are working through this life phase.

As boomers age, more caregivers to aging parents will be needed. But it can be difficult for families to discuss strategies for seniors to age in place and manage estates. Laura Tamblyn Watts has some tips. The president and chief executive officer of CanAge, a national advocacy organization for seniors, wrote a book, Let’s Talk About Aging Parents, to help families address the difficult topics. “Those power dynamics you had when you were a kid are probably still there,” she says. “You’re going to have to acknowledge them and find ways around them.” She recently spoke with Deanne Gage about icebreakers for these important discussions and how advisors can help.

Remember how dentures weren't originally part of Canada's Dental Care Plan? Well, thanks to all the amazing advocacy work by CanAge and our fellow colleagues and supporters, we WON BIG for Canada's seniors! We pushed specifically for coverage of both partial and full dentures, highlighting the significant impact on overall health – not just for dental, but social, dietary, and many other positive health outcomes. We also asked for a simplified means of accessing the program - which has also been more streamlined with a process that mirrors accessing private dental insurance, delivered via SunLife. Check out all that will be covered for those who apply and are processed starting May 1, 2024 at https://lnkd.in/gfkCBAmS. This is a fantastic step forward in ensuring all Canadians have access to essential dental care. Huge thanks to the federal government for listening and making this crucial change to the CDCP program. This is a win 🙌 for seniors' health and well-being across Canada! #CanAge #CDCP #DentalCareForAll #SeniorsHealth P.S. Stay tuned for more updates from CanAge on the hashtag #CDCP rollout, how to determine your eligibility, and get coverage!
