Today BioMimir celebrates Fiona Simpson's successful graduation from the Innovate Calgary Life Science Innovation Fellowship. Thank-you to the past and present members of Innovate Calgary who have supported us on our journey and helped turn BioMimir into the thriving team that we are today. A special thanks to Alberta Innovates, the Calgary Economic Development Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund, and Prairies Economic Development Canada I Développement économique Canada pour les Prairies for funding the program.
It's the end of an era... I'm extremely proud to have finished my Life Science Fellowship at Innovate Calgary on a high note surrounded by all of our community supporters. Two years ago, Elle Edin, Benjamin Yam, MBA and I went looking for support for a newly established BioMimir and found a program half a country away. Our Alberta expansion has helped us to raise funding, recruit talent, and source manufacturing partners. Two years later we're a team of 8 with three product lines in development. Thank-you to all of the team members at Innovate Calgary past and present who resonated with our vision and helped to make our dream a reality. A special thank-you to Alberta Innovates, the Calgary Economic Development Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund and Prairies Economic Development Canada I Développement économique Canada pour les Prairies for funding this program. We're planning a blockbuster 2024 and we can't wait to show you what we've been working on.

Check out Fiona Simpson's interview for the See it Be it STEM it calendar.
Role models and mentors are a critical part of finding your path in STEM. I picked my program at McMaster University because my grade 12 biology textbook profiled Dr. Flossie Wong-Staal as one of the critical scientists behind the identification of HIV. I thought, "I want to do that too!" And I went on to get my undergrad degree in Molecular Biology. I'm incredibly lucky to have worked in the research group of Dr. Ashok Grover during my undergrad, where I learned foundational research skills that I still use today. I'm proud to have done my PhD with Dr May Griffith and Dr. Marie-Claude Robert at the Universite de Montreal. I'm inspired everyday by my amazing wife, Dr. Elle Edin, who reminds me it's never too late to teach yourself an new skill or to chase your dreams. I'm fortunate to be among the 12 amazing women that See it Be it STEM it has profiled for their 2024 calendar. If you're a young person considering a career in STEM, these women are doing incredible work in science, technology, trades, engineering and math. You can get your calendar for free here: https://lnkd.in/gdbzQH4T If you're a youth considering a career in STEM, my door is always open.
