As wildfire season continues to impact Canadians every year, it’s critical that we use every tool we can to make fighting them easier. AltaML built us a tool that uses AI to analyze information and predicts forest conditions. As Microsoft points out here, the model can accurately predict a new wildfire 80% of the time. That’s going to help the firefighters in the front lines do their job better and mire safely. There are other exciting companies such as Wyvern that are developing satellite technology to assist in fighting wildfires, and samdesk to help analyze data in realtime. I know that NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) also has a program to help develop tools for fighting disasters, and that Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, Lethbridge Polytechnic and more also do this work. https://lnkd.in/gdpwfJPM Cory Janssen Nicole Janssen Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) Google DeepMind Richard Sutton University of Alberta Bill Flanagan John G Alho, MBA, ICD.D Elan MacDonald, ICD.D Ashif Mawji Alberta Enterprise Corporation (AEC) Kristina Williams James Neufeld Ashlyn Bernier Tim Lynn Zack Storms Startup TNT Calgary.tech Edmonton Global Calgary Economic Development Malcolm Bruce MSM, ICD.D Brad Parry Christopher Robson
