The amazing Palesa Molefe, reigning Miss Botswana, took some time out and ensured COVID-19 safety whilst preparing for her upcoming trip for the #MissWorld finale; virtually graced our handover donation ceremony for Thamani, Shanganani and Ramoja Junior Schools. Schools we are formally adopting as a part of the government of Botswana's adopt-a-school programme. This, along with partnering with the National AIDS and Health Promotion Agency within the national HIV response, is one of the key programme priorities reflecting in our intersectional, feminist & youth-centered approach to engaging communities. The ceremony marked an early commemoration for International Women's Day 2022. Success Capital believes in Partnerships, collaboration and continuously finding ways to build solutions for women and girls in their diversity. Donating 3 packets for a 3 month period across the country. Since last year's commemoration in Mookane to date, Success Capital has donated over 92500 sanitary pads for an estimated 11562 menstrual cycles and over P16000 worth of basic hygiene products for the boy child across the country with a commitment to donate a further P5000 from our founder for mattresses for one of the schools. Success Capital Organisation continues to practically provide means for alleviating period poverty, one aspect of the many challenges young women and girls face in their diversity; whilst advocating and influencing policy for more inclusive, meaningful and collaborative approaches to promoting and protecting human rights whilst achieving sustainable development. Bodily Autonomy & Integrity is one of the key issues we have been working on, with over 3300 physical signatures, join our online petition for the provision of free sanitary pads for all Batswana that menstruate: https://lnkd.in/dYU42p44 We are grateful to Miss Botswana and the Secretariat team for their support and engagement, wishing Palesa Molefe an amazing trip and return with the #MissWorld crown! #Youth #Feminist #SDGs #Vision2036 #MissBotswana #PalesaToTheWorld #SRHR #ChildRights #GenderEquality #IWD2022 #Botswana #Charity #BAI #StandUpforBAI #breakingthebias

𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓 𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭! We started Season 1 with Dumiso G. who opened perfectly the season by encouraging us to allow ourselves the depth of a non-linear story. Coming from auditing, Dumi pivoted to activism and started their own NGO in Botswana, 𝘚𝘶𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭. Dumi explains how they work on eliminating the barriers between grassroots experiences and global policymaking, what are the challenges and the rewards in running your own NGO or campaign and which skills make a difference in occupying those governance spaces for people with lived experience. Enjoy this conversation with references that range from Nelson Mandela to Brenda Fassi, from Madonna to Maya Angelou. "I was born out of the conditions of the country that determined who I ultimately became.” - Nomzamo Winifred Zanyiwe Madikizela Mandela. Our very own Trustee Dumiso G. commemorates Winifred Zanyiwe Madikizela Mandela in a two-part series blog. "As her spirit endures among feminists the world over, her legacy is continuously celebrated and reflected on." This two-part series does so, drawing on the lessons that are often undocumented or erased by those who hold the privilege to produce and disseminate knowledge. 26 September - World Contraception Day We hosted a few stakeholders for a roundtable discussion on contraception and broader SRHR issues in Botswana. A synopsis below: Slide 1 shows, among stakeholders – There is a higher level of knowledge that doesn’t always translate for all communities. Particularly communities where sex isn’t a topic that can occur between an adolescent and an adult, even in school settings. Success Capital has found several communities in Gumare, Shakawe and Mookane that often found it difficult to have conversations about contraceptives with their partners.   This is further reflected in Slide 2, which showcases the many influences that impede discourse on contraceptives and SRHR in a broader sense. More importantly, the various workshops Success Capital has had on SRHR unearthed a level of ignorance in how comprehensive sex education is taught. Youth have expressed how limited information and personal bias often leave little opportunity to unpack and understand various topics. This is why at Success Capital, we believe issues of consent, sexual assault and intimate partner violence consistently emerge as experiences among young women and queer folks. There are too many missed opportunities to learn how to ensure health seeking behaviour, pleasure and informed consent for many Batswana. Slide 3 only reinforces how the lack of information and enabling social environment impede shared learning and eliminating stigma and discrimination. Success Capital posits that Patriarchy and misogyny thrive among ignorance and silence. Knowledge is power, we need to ensure that youth, LGBTI, people with disabilities, sex workers and anyone that is marginalized, othered or has to submit or receive in intimacy – that they are empowered with the right information, at the right time to make the right decisions to ensure safety, health and wellbeing. Slide 4 needs no explanation. Success Capital believes Men, as heads of households, enablers of sexual intercourse and those who carry what can impregnate; need to part of these kinds of conversations. Contraceptives should not lie with women alone, there should be adequate measures – social, programming, legislative – that ensure men play an active role in family planning just as much as they do in soliciting intimacy.
