They're finally back! The regular Phase 2 clone trooper and the Super Battle Droid have finally returned after almost 9 years. I had one goal, put as much value and as many figures as I could into this set.

With it being the 25th anniversary of LEGO Star Wars, I wanted to pay homage to one of the pillars of the theme. Battle Packs. I remember getting the first two battle packs 7654 and 7655 as a kid and how much time I spent playing with them. I wanted to create a similar play experience for the kids of today that the older fans would also appreciate. How better to inspire play then to have a whole battle in a single box!

The most challenging part of the design was adjusting all the smaller builds to feel equal in fighting power.

My favorite part of this model is the fact I was able to include a Shock trooper. It took a lot of convincing. I know many will have wanted four regular troopers but as a kid who had that original battle pack and not many other Star Wars sets, I used my shock trooper as my clone commander. I also didn't want the shock trooper in 75354 to be stuck behind a high pay barrier like the last ones in 75046.

I hope everyone enjoys army building for BOTH armies!

I was fortunate enough to be ahead of schedule when designing the 75356 SSD that I had some time to help Henrik with the May the 4th promotional set. The brief was the Death Star II with a 40th anniversary “Return of the Jedi” plaque on the base.

The prototype I received was a bit smaller but created it’s shape using SNOT (Studs Not On Top) bricks to to get a stud-y exterior. Through some other constraints, this made the model pretty small, so I was tasked with finding another approach which is what you see here.

Instead of a solid core, I used the octagonal bar plates to built struts out from the center like a wagon wheel. This allowed for a hollow interior which helped the model be a bit larger.

The most challenging part was getting the gaps to be as small as possible on the surface.

My favorite parts of this model are:
1. The use of the plant piece for the laser. The three prongs of it are as close as we could get to achieving this detail and was one of my first NPU (Nice Part Usage) in an official set.
2. The Final Duel Easter egg inside of the panels. Very similar to the one in the 75356 SSD.
3. Was making our Design Manager Jens laugh when I had the model sitting on my desk in the normal position. “Check it out. Death Star II” (turns model 90° to the right) “Death Star I!”

Special thank you to Henrik for making the final adjustments to the model while I went on paternity leave.

I was absolutely beside myself to get the opportunity to design a Star Wars set. Being a huge fan of the IP, this was a dream come true. I received the original prototype from Jason Zapantis who had determined the initial layout of the panels. From there I modified the internals to be stronger, more easily buildable, and to house an Easter egg.

This model is made in the fashion of 77904 Nebulon-B Frigate. Which is the perfect way to create these iconic Star Wars ships. The stand has a slight change with the addition of the grill elements. This allowed for the celebration brick to be attached but also, if the builder wishes, they could attach a Darth Vader or Admiral Piett minifigure from their personal collection.

The most challenging part of designing this set was creating the angles of the panels and ensuring there were no collisions with the internals.

My favorite part of this set is the Easter egg inside. While not from the celebrated 40 year RotJ, the scene is so iconic and a call back to the UCS version of the ship.

A special thanks to Model designer Marin Stipkovic for telling about the opportunity.

Bricklist notes
This is a bittersweet set for me because it is my final City set I designed before moving to the Star Wars team fully.

Car washes are a staple in LEGO City and LEGO Town, so it was really exciting to put my own spin on a classic. I had initially explored using a textile for hanging sponges. This would've allowed for a lower age mark and also added novelty to a car wash that hadn't been done outside of Duplo. Unfortunately the idea was nixed for the brushes that were deemed more iconic.

My favorite detail is the colors. We wanted the car wash to have a color scheme that looked clean but also didn't clash with the rest of the launch wave. The yellow and green car match the pineapples on the woman's shirt. Plus it's always a win to introduce elements in new colors! I hope you enjoy the blue brushes and the green car bricks.

The biggest challenge was the flexing side brushes. After working through so many options, that lacked that perfect feel or took up way too much space for this small model, it came to me one morning and the rest is what you see here. A flexible brush that doesn't take up too much space that allows cars 4 studs and 6 studs wide to be cleaned.

I am disappointed that the pricing in North America is so inflated, but I hope that the rest of the world feels that this a good value!

This set was a quick one to design. The brief wanted a minifigure on a scooter with a dog. There wasn’t much more that could be added.

Instead of a tree, we had wondered about adding a trash can with a little poop and a shovel because kids think that kind of play is hilarious, but we couldn’t think of a way of showing those included on the bag front with making it look like she was riding away from the mess her dog made. Nevertheless, I think the tree with a butterfly is a nice alternative.

They're here! LEGO otters have arrived and I was the lucky designer who got assigned to this set. I was tasked to create an ATV for a park ranger to ride and a habitat for the otters to play with.

My favorite details are: The otters! They're so cute and I'm so excited I was the model designer who got to bring them into the LEGO universe! You can also stash the fish inside the waterslide waterfall.

Biggest challenge for this set was: This set was the start of the period where I worked on five sets simultaneously.

For this set, I joined a team to help design a new building experience. One centered around an app that would give building prompts to guide builders to designing their own solutions to story based missions. This was an interesting challenge since it had never been done before and I think the results are everything we hoped for. An immersive experience where kids design their own creations that they can be proud of and to help them to not shy away from creating something completely new. Sometimes disassembling can be part of the fun!

My favorite details are: The cool pool of "spacey" pieces! I was thrilled to be able to bring back the retro space engine as well as some other elements in a new color. I am also honored to have a minifigure head likeness thanks to Senior Graphic Designer Ioana!

Biggest challenge was mapping out the experience between the app and the physical building. It was a long process but we got it done! A huge round of applause for the whole LEGO Missions team.

I was lucky enough to get to work on this model from making the initial prototype to bringing it to market. It went through a lot of visual changes and function changes. There was originally going to be air ducts underneath the bank where the crooks could plant dynamite and send safety boxes out the window. This was dropped for a more brick efficient, more repeatable play scenario. I tried my best to fit as much play value and details as possible.

My favorite details are: The safety deposit boxes in the vault, the removeable barricades on the side of the police truck, and a special date to me on the Crook's license plate (Thanks to Senior Graphic Designer Austin Carlson)

Biggest challenges were: The skids of the helicopter made it difficult to stay together when pressing on the center of the model and creating the bank/scenario for the crooks to rob.

I worked on this model with City designer Heiko. We both made concepts to present to the client for their store exclusive set. They chose his so I took his concept and made changes. The most notable ones being adding a balcony, beefing up the helicopter, increasing the height of the lighthouse, and adding a shark.

My favorite detail is that the cockpit for the helicopter fits so closely but can fit any of the figures in the set.

Biggest challenge was deciding the building process of the tower. We went for a rather different path than we normally would, but thanks to the Model Quality team we got it working in the best way possible.

This is my first LEGO set I designed! I received the initial prototype to refine and finish. It was a great starter set to learn the processes.

My favorite detail is how the rear wheel wells turned out and the building process for them.

Biggest challenge was getting the size ratios right with the resources I had.
