Twenty Five Years for the Opening Scene!

Written by (AFOL , gold-rated reviewer) in United States,

Probably one of the most iconic scenes in cinema history and it's taken LEGO twenty-five years to finally make this set.

    Minifigures

Darth Vader: A nice figure, this Darth Vader is an excellent minifigure with arm, leg and back prints. This figure is as impressive as the dark lord himself. He is equipped with his red-bladed lightsaber.

Stormtroopers: two typical stormtroopers are included here. The only real change is that their hips are white now instead of black. They both carry blasters.

Rebel Fleet Troopers: these figures are the same design as the one included in the Yavin Rebel Base set last year. They both carry chrome silver blasters.

Captains Antilles: this figure is a slight update from the one that last appeared five years ago. He carries a silver gun as well.

ARC Trooper Fives: this is a LEGO figure I personally believed that LEGO would never make, but here it is. This is a pretty good figure with excellent detail and printing. The only cons I have is that the print on his helmet looks kind of wonky, and he should have had a cloth waist cape.

    The Build:

The build is pretty straightforward with a slight bit of technic mixed in.

    Overall:

This set is an excellent set and the inclusion of ARC Trooper Fives and just the iconic scene is great. The play features work wonderfully and is great to play with. In conclusion, I would definitely recommend this set.

25th Anniversary with a Boarding Party

Written by (AFOL , silver-rated reviewer) in United States,

For the 25 years of LEGO Star Wars, we are given one of the first battles of Star Wars, the Tantive IV boarding. Instead of getting the ship itself, we're getting the inside of it instead.

With this set and some others for the 25th anniversary, they come with a unique character that we haven't got before. In this set, we get the 501st ARC Trooper 'Fives'.

    Minifigure

In this set, you get 2 Rebel Fleet Troopers, 2 Stormtroopers, Darth Vader and Captain Antilles. Along with ARC Trooper Fives on the side.

    Captain Antilles and Rebel Trooper

With the release of this set, this is the cheapest set to get Antilles, as the previous sets he was in back in 2009 (10198) and 2019 (75244) were $150 and $200. This is fantastic if you don't want to get the older version of the characters.
This is a completely different version of Antilles from the 2019 set. The badge on this one I think is a bit too big, as it touches the pocket under it.

The two Rebel Troopers are the new version and are both the exact same from the year before in the 'Rebel Base' set. This version, this time around, doesn't have skin showing on the torso, a great change for wanting to use even more different faces of different skin tones. Honestly, kinda makes it strange why Captain Antilles doesn't do the same as well.

    Darth Vader and Stormtrooper

Darth Vader in this version is the best one. I was a bit mixed, but looking back at the older ones, the legs and face are certainly an improvement. He now actually looks old under his helmet, rather than still looking young.

With Stormtrooper, this is the first time I have got a new one since the Imperial Dropship (the original). So, comparing only those versions with these, obviously the printing is a knockout. It's an over 10-year gap. HOWEVER, the helmets are a completely different story; they are way too big, and the chin part is far too low. I honestly say they are a complete downgrade compared to the original.

    ARC Trooper Fives

While I don't get why he's here compared to the other characters, who are unlikely to be seen on sets. Fives could've been in any kind of Clone Wars set. We likely would not have got arm printing, though. Not to mention, I think he should've switched places with 'Saw Gerrera' from the 'Sith Infiltrator'. It's just a nitpick, but it feels strange seeing him in an original trilogy set.

He has great design all around, aside from the helmet, which has those awkward gaps in the iconic part of his helmet. The pauldron is oddly flat, and like everyone else with a waist cape, only has them printed. The only way I could think they would have that waist cape without using fabric, is for them to have side printing. Though, sadly, we won't get anything like that.

    The Set

It's interesting that this is a playset rather than a part of the Diorama Collection. It might have had the quote "If this is a Consular Ship, where is the Ambassador!".

Aside from that, an amazing job was done to make this as accurate as could be, using lots of bars and arch pieces to give its shape, along with sticker details.

The door is the only part that is printed, likely because of the opening and closing function it has. A function for which has an unnecessary far away lever, which is why the door on the other side is open. It could've been closed, as I don't understand why it needed these long axles, when it being close by can do just fine. It just needs to replace those axles and connectors with a 6L or 7L and 2 bush.

The floor, having a heavy mix of tiles and studs, is a bit off-putting. But it can be an easy fix if you have extra tiles or plates. It's also thick, do to the knockdown function. Moving those technic pieces on the front will knock down the troopers standing in the specific area. It's a bit of fun with the function.

    Overall

Honestly, I think this set was truly meant to be a Diorama, but while designing it, they decided to turn it into a playset. But either way, it's still a great looking set with fitting minifigs to the scene, with a bit of army building with the 4 troopers.

It's also a great set if you're looking for grey plates/tiles and white parts. Not to mention what is already mentioned, the cheapest set to get Captain Antilles. Certainly a recommended set to get.

Only sad that we're getting a poorly designed helmet for Fives. Unless we can all agree to just leave his helmet off and give it to a different clone.
