Ah yes. The LEGO Movie merch! As is usual, I am very late to the party. I was in a dark age during the first LEGO movie but for the second I promised myself I would try to get the main ensemble of characters for my collection. It took me a year to get around to it but finally I have some sets related to the movie.

I am kicking things off with Lucy going up against the Alien Invader! How does it stack up?

Packaging:

The set being a polybag is nothing fancy. You get a simple shot of the contents of the bag in action. I like the colors and presentation on it though.

Contents:

Just a bag full of parts and a fold-out instruction sheet.

The Build:

Simple for what it is. However, the clever meter is off the charts. I actually really loved the invader build. To use regular system pieces to make a Duplo-esque build was very enjoyable and interesting. If you could only get one of these creatures, the one in this set is really nice.

The Minifigure:

We get a real nice Lucy figure here. I like the new details on her suit and I am quite taken with her hair piece with the built-in goggles. The printing on her legs and arms are exquisite and her facial expressions are on point for her. Excellent all around.

The Completed Set:

Just a figure an an invader as advertised. Though again, I cannot overstate how refreshing I found the invader build. So nice.

Overall:

If you got this when the movie was fresh I would think it was well worth it. If you missed out on these I would recommend snapping one up before prices go much higher on them. The figure and invader look great on display. But for me the best part was the smile on the faces of my kids as the characters they liked from the movie were brought into reality.

Parting Shot/s:

This polybag includes one of the Duplo "aliens" from the end of The Lego Movie, and the apocalypse version of Wyldstyle. There are two new pieces for 2018 in this set, Wyldstyle's hair, and her scarf/rope. This set is a good addition to a Lego Movie setup, and you can buy multiple of it, seeing as it's only a polybag.

Parts and playability are ok. The building experience and value are amazing. You get a Duplo invader and a cheap way to get Lucy.

Box/Instructions: Apocalypse

Comes in polybag with normal polybag size instructions.

Parts:

You don't get any really cool or unique parts in this set. You get a some orange and blue parts which are nice. The 2x2 tile with the printed eye on it was a nice piece to get. The total piece count for the set is 44.

Minifigures:

Lucy:

You get Apocalypse Lucy in this set. She has a doubled-sided head. On one side she is smiling and on the other she is angry. She has a new hair piece with goggles, a pony tail, and her classic blue and pink stripes on it. It is a very cool piece. She also has a new brown scarf/hood piece which is also another great piece to get. She has amazing printing on her torso and legs. She has printing on the front, back, and her arms of her torso. On her right arm she has a bunch of blue and pink markings and on her left are she has a blue and pink bands around her wrist. She has printing of a belt, a pocket, and strap on her legs as well as printing of her boots. She has printing on the side of her legs as well. She is armed with a dark grey crossbow with a black arrow sheath. Overall this is a really good figure with amazing detail.

The Build:

The build was quick and easy. Took me a few minutes to build.

Overall Opinion:

Overall this is a pretty good polybag. The Duplo Alien is really cool and look nice. Lucy is the highlight of the set. The crossbow, arrow sheath, scarf/hood, and hairpiece are all amazing. The detail is outstanding and the amount of printing (especially on the arms and side of the legs) is great. I recommend getting this set (Especially if you are a Lego Movie 2 fan). Overall I'm giving it a 4-star rating.

This little polybag set has me very excited to see TLM2. The little LEGO brick built Duplo alien invader is the winner in this set for me. I thought the open mouth detail would have included a hinged plate but instead uses Technic pins and parts.

The alien invaders remind me of the Micro Managers from TLM in that our main characters likely encounter these bad guys throughout the movie (time will tell). They are much brighter than the MM and a much easier, quicker and more colorful to build.

I love the printed eye 2x2 round tile included. Other interesting parts are 2 Orange 1x2 bricks with studs on the front, 8 Orange rounded 1x1 slope bricks, an Orange 2x4 tile and 2 Blue 1x1 round tiles. Lucy herself is an impressive figure with her new hairpiece and scarf as well as dual molded/colored/printed legs.

I purchased 2 copies of this set so I could build another alien invader using the printed eye tile and some of the parts from this set to create the bottom half. I'll use another bright color to create a different top half so that I can begin to build a little squad of these cool Duplo aliens!

TLM2 sets have not disappointed yet (I've also bought and built Benny's Classic Spaceman Battle Pack and loved that shout out to amazing CS sets of the 80s).
