A great play and display set

Written by (TFOL) in United Kingdom,

This is a Lego set. It was released in 2023, for the Ninjago theme, explicitly the new spin off show, Dragons Rising. It contains 47 parts according to Brickset, is packaged in a Polybag, and features 2 Minifigures.

Packaging: This set features fairly basic packaging, with a blurry, murky forest-esque background, and shows the two minifigures duking it out on either side, and the temple in the centre.

Building experience: The instructions are a 2 sided sheet. The build experience is fairly simple, and easy.

Main build: The main build is a temple, or shrine, for a simple gold sai. It is surrounded by bamboo, using the candlestick piece in bright green (#6328327) for the sticks and using dark green foliage (#6229130), and a bright yellowish green hollow stud (#6190251) to connect it to the base. Pieces #6115080 and #6028324 are stacked on top of each other for a stand for the sai. The temple has an ornate roof, flanked by two lanterns, and on the very top is a gold frog, which is always nice to see. Overall, I think this build is simple yet affective, as it adds play and display value. The sai gives a mcguffin for play, and the temple looks good on its own.

Minifigures: Kai, like all ninja, wears a brand-new gi for this wave of sets, called merge suits. These feature a two pieced mask and armour combination, that looks good, but greatly limits head articulation. The mask greatly resembles element #6225499, used by the dragon hunters, such as Skullbreaker and Muzzle, in the Hunted wave of sets. However, this one differs slightly, having a point in the middle, and a smaller forehead. The armour is bulky and covers the mouth, as it should do. It also has a holder for the two gold katanas that this minifigure is equipped with. The torso features printed robes at the front, showing the fire ninja's symbol, and has two buckles (?) with a fiery design. On the back, it has the same dragon symbol as all the other ninja, but this is surrounded by more fiery detail. His legs have a black belt, and dark red knee armour/bandages. At the very bottom, he has dark red foot printing, in the form of shoes. He also has an all new head for this year, which looks great. On one side, Kai has a cocky smile, and on the other, he looks more powerful, with a black visor covered in fire patterns and very rectangular eyes, and a grimacing mouth. I think this is a good minifigure, but it looks better with #6267099 and #6294344 for a more conventional ninja outfit. The incompetent Rapton is also included, who features a gold visor with a red lens, with cheekbones and 2 expressions, a neutral one, and an enraged one. He shares his attire with Imperium Claw Generals, and Imperium Claw Commanders, and the armour showcases nice moulded detail. His torso shows golden armour, and orange detailing resembles a face, but the "eyes" and "nose" are covered by the armour. At the back, there is more golden armour, and his legs have also got similar detailing. All over the torso and legs the is orange circuitry that concludes a nice colour scheme of black, orange, gold and grey. He is armed with a trans orange katana, which is a rare piece, only appears in the astronomically expensive #71799, and this. Whilst some may prefer piece #6430281, I enjoy this rarer piece at such a cheap price.

Overall: I wholeheartedly recommend this set to anyone. It has many useful and interesting parts, such as #6437168, #6317016, #6171138 and #6262496. This is also a cheap way to get Merge Suit Kai and Rapton, if you wish to possess such minifigures. I sincerely hope you at least tolerated this lengthy review.
