Review: 70848 Systar Party Crew

Despite approaching the ominous Systar System with trepidation, several steadfast characters are quickly spellbound by Catchy Song. 70848 Systar Party Crew includes three such heroes and these exclusive minifigures appear excellent, featuring appropriately bright colours.

Stardust Benny seems especially interesting and attracted notable appreciation while on display at the LEGO House. That minifigure alone might be sufficient to justify purchasing this set for many LEGO fans, although MetalBeard and Unikitty should definitely not be overlooked.

Review: 70847 Good Morning Sparkle Babies!

LEGO babies were introduced during 2016 and these wonderful characters have subsequently become very collectable. 70847 Good Morning Sparkle Babies! comes with two exclusive baby figures and looks interesting, particularly since this set only costs £8.99 or $9.99.

Moreover, these renditions of Emmet and Lucy both include unique heads and the Everything is Awesome single cover is exclusively found here as well. For that reason, I have been excited to take a closer look at this diminutive set.

Review: 30460 Rex's Plantimal Ambush

Rex Dangervest is among the most interesting new characters to appear in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part so his relative rarity across the range is somewhat disappointing. 30460 Rex's Plantimal Ambush is therefore a lovely polybag as this offers a fantastic opportunity to acquire Rex Dangervest wearing his typical attire.

The colourful Plantimal is similarly appealing in my opinion as it contains numerous unusual pieces and provides potential for army building, joining the Plantimals found in 70826 Rex's Rex-treme Offroader and 70835 Rex's Rexplorer.

Review: 70836 Battle-Ready Batman and MetalBeard

Batman and MetalBeard were probably among the most impressive characters to emerge from The LEGO Movie so 70836 Battle-Ready Batman and MetalBeard should be a marvellous set. The new rendition of MetalBeard appears absolutely ridiculous which is fantastic and I love Batman's post-apocalyptic attire.

In addition, this minifigure is only available here and in 70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg, although the version from the larger set includes a pair of decorated arms. Nevertheless, I am pleased that Batman and MetalBeard are found in a set which is relatively affordable, costing £17.99 in the UK or $19.99 in the US.

Please note that this review is spoiler free.

Review: 70823 Emmet's Thricycle

Emmet formulated some unconvincing building ideas during The LEGO Movie and that tendency continues during The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. 70823 Emmet's Thricycle looks particularly outlandish, consisting of three black tyres which are arranged vertically beneath the driver.

This bizarre vehicle really appeals to me and the set contains 174 pieces, among which is a brand new tyre that was created for 2019. Its price of £12.99 or $14.99 therefore seems reasonable and I love the colourful DUPLO character opposing Emmet as well as the Octan petrol pump.

Review: 853865 Sewer Babies Accessory Set

Several new characters were introduced during the first teaser trailer for The LEGO Movie 2 and the adorable Sewer Babies evoked an especially strong reaction. These figures are only available in 853865 Sewer Babies Accessory Set so I think this will be an exceptionally popular pack.

This set also contains Emmet and Sharkira, both of whom appear in other sets which is slightly disappointing. Nevertheless, the Sewer Babies are outstanding and they alone might justify the price of £11.99 or $12.99 for some collectors.

Review: 853875 Sweet Mayhem Pod

853875 Sweet Mayhem Pod has not yet been listed at shop.LEGO.com but it is now starting to show up in brand stores and I picked one up in Leicester Square after seeing the film on Saturday.

Sweet Mayhem is one of the new characters in the film, although not the most outstanding (that's the queen). However she is certainly going where no Friends figure has gone before. In the two boxed sets she appears in, 70824 Introducing Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi and 70830 Sweet Mayhem's Systar Starship, she's kitted out with a funky space helmet and suit. They are not included in this set but her fantastic sparkly hairpiece is.

Review: 70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg (Part 2)

Impressive though the minifigure selection and building experience offered by 70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg are, its greatest features are found in the completed model. The second part of Brickset's comprehensive review accordingly focuses upon that subject.

Discover the secrets of Apocalypseburg here or read the first section for detailed information about the minifigures and construction.

Review: 70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg (Part 1)

70840 Welcome to Apocalypseburg is the latest in an impressive series of large sets based upon the LEGO movies. This model received a broadly positive reaction when it was revealed, although notable criticism has been levelled at its price of £279.99 or $299.99, particularly when compared with the exceptional 70620 NINJAGO City which appears to offer far superior value.

Nevertheless, I was immediately enraptured by both the imposing scale of this model and its striking subject matter. The apocalyptic setting is undoubtedly spectacular and it would seem that thorough detail has been maintained too based upon official images. Furthermore, a marvellous selection of minifigures are included. Part one of our review is focused upon those minifigures along with the building experience.

Review: 70827 Ultrakatty & Warrior Lucy

Unikitty obsessively suppressed any negative emotions for almost the entire duration of The LEGO Movie, finally embracing them during the climactic battle against Lord Business' powerful Micro Managers. Unfortunately, it would appear that her mood has deteriorated after the arrival of aliens from the planet DUPLO!

70827 Ultrakatty & Warrior Lucy is probably the most ferocious version of Unikitty yet, taking more inspiration from a lion than a kitten! The model was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con and I think it looks fantastic in official images, due primarily to its spiky appearance. Hopefully its articulation will be similarly impressive.

Review: 70822 Unikitty's Sweetest Friends EVER!

70822 Unikitty's Sweetest Friends EVER! comes with two fantastical residents of the mysterious Systar System and really captured my attention when the sets were revealed. Ice Cream Cone and Chocolate Bar both seem quite interesting and incorporate some brand new elements.

Moreover, this set contains another exclusive version of Unikitty and seems to offer reasonable value, costing £8.99 in the UK or $9.99 in the US. It should therefore prove to be an excellent counterpart for the outstanding 70841 Benny's Space Squad, focusing upon an entirely different aspect of LEGO building!

Review: 70841 Benny's Space Squad

Benny was among the most popular characters to appear in The LEGO Movie from 2014, as one might expect given his origins in Classic Space. This magnificent subtheme has remained iconic across four decades, inspiring great excitement following the announcement of 70841 Benny's Space Squad!

The set only contains 68 pieces but evokes the distinctive design of Classic Space vehicles and comes with four astronauts, one of whom is wearing brand new pink attire! Furthermore, this set costs just £8.99 or $9.99 so seems to offer good value and may be a highlight of the entire theme for The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part.

Review: Apocalypseburg Unikitty

Unikitty proved to be among the most popular characters from The LEGO Movie and will soon be returning in The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part. However, it would seem that her cheerful personality has hardened upon witnessing the destruction of Bricksburg by DUPLO invaders, hence the emergence of Apocalypseburg Unikitty!

This figure was given away at San Diego Comic-Con in July, coinciding with the announcement of 70827 Ultracatty and Warrior Wyldstyle. I am looking forward to that set very much indeed but this version of the character, constructed at her traditional smaller size, looks brilliant too.
