Who are all those real people in the background? Creepy...

By in Canada,

The embellishments of the faces on these sets is memorable. Whether it is a good or bad memory…that’s in the eye of the beholder.

The AFOLs :[
They're always there... Always watching.

Seriously, dude. That's a great early-aughts skater expression on that fig. You know he's sayin', "Gnarly, bro!"

By in Finland,

Those old skateboard mags were so much better scaled than the modern ones (though they didn't spin).

By in Canada,

Hmm...thinking: He's about to become "The Flash", because he looks like he's 'riding the lightning'...:)

He was a skater boi,
She said, "See ya later, boi!"
He wasn't good enough for her.
Now he's a LEGO set;
who woulda bet?
Too bad she can't afford him due to the aftermarket surrrrrge!

By in Netherlands,

I'd say his expression suggests that this skating-enthousiast has fallen on his head one too many times, and that that helmet just isn't as effective as we'd like it to be.

I can only assume one of them is Avril Lavigne furiously scribbling notes

"...is that an Imperial Officer torso!?"

Wow! Good eye. That's the torso from SW0042 from 7166. Back when the Empire cared about customer service, service with a smile. :)

By in Germany,

I have this set! This is the minifigure with the tightest sitting head i ever had, it was almost impossible to get it off.

By in Netherlands,

I like this polybag. They did everything you'd need to have a skateboarder with obstacles and even a neck bracket with remote holding stick.

I also feel nostalgic thinking about this being from the C1000 polybag promotion. I got two Belville sets (Fairy Land 5873 and Golden Land 5872) and two Bionicle sets (Matoro 1393 and Huki 1388, the 2003 editions neither Brickset or BL seems to list) from the promo.

You mean compared to the ones with the pushcart wheels? Those actually came first in the 2002 Island Xtreme Stunts theme (best seen in 6731). These Sports skateboards are just an evolutionary branch that came and went.

Fun fact, the bar with two studs on one side and one hollow round stud on the other (part 42445) was originally designed for remote minifig manipulation like in the aforementioned skateboarding sets. But in this one a simple antenna is used. Tight budget apparantly.

This must be one of the only times that a SW torso appeared in a set outside of the SW line. I can't think of a single other case

Interesting that if you go to the "Parts" tab on the set page, the wheels are listed, but the board is not. Both are long out of production, so I wonder how that happened.

It is pretty rare, yeah. A couple of other examples, though:

10200, the torso of the guy with the flag was originally from the previous year's Naboo Fighter pilot. And several city minifigures used Luke's Bespin shirt from the original Cloud City set, such as the porter in 7997, the lady farmhand in 7637, and the kid in 10185.

That said, yeah, I did always wonder why this guy was wearing an Imperial Officer's uniform; I'm no expert in professional skateboarding attire, but I wouldn't have thought this was quite the standard sort of outfit for the sport...

He’s just riding that fast, across level ground, on a gravity-driven plank with tiny wheels.

Not as interesting as 7921. Happened to find one of those in a bulk bin. Said LEGO on it but...

By in United States,

That face is great, I really like a good winking faceprint like the photographer in 60202

(am I doing this skater-talk right?)
