Better than the Hulkbuster

Avengers was 10 years ago... :skull:

For alliteration it could have been Hulk’s Helicarrier Hescape. Missed opportunity there, LEGO.

By in Australia,

Love how you can't actually fit the Hulk inside the holding cell designed for the Hulk.

By in United States,

Millions of dollars of damage caused to New York City! The cause? Several middle-aged men dressed in brightly-colored spandex.

By in United States,

This set had what may be the best sticker ever, even if it use Space Invaders instead of Galaga.

He has the power!

If you ever read any of the old Toy Fare Magazine Mego comics, you might get this reference. I mean, technically it was just beer, but that's not the part we were given to play with.

By in United Kingdom,

All well and good, but where's John Steed... and the Hulk is no substitute for Emma Peel in a leather catsuit!

By in United States,

They couldn't afford the Hulkbuster at $550, super powers will have to do.

By in Germany,

This was the first set to introduce the modern day big-figs right?

It was designed by Nick fury to hold Loki, not hulk, right?

By in South Korea,

Is this the first Marvel Superheroes set on SOTD? Took'em long enough! (No, the Spider-Man 2 sets don't count since they weren't branded Marvel Superheroes.)

It was designed to hold Hulk but they put Loki in it in the movie. They wouldn't have even known about Loki when they made it.

By in Australia,

Thus, Lego began a long habit of making mediocre sets seem attractive by filling them with the minifigs that we all wanted.

By in Netherlands,

In hindsight this is a pretty cool set. I like it better now than when i first saw it

Gravatar
By in Norway,

The «cage» from this fits in the hole in the Dimensions plates, so I used two of those to create a more accurate Helicarrier breakout where you can actually drop the cage like in the movie.

Not quite. Or kind of. Hulk here was the template, but the hands already appeared on the large troll in 7037 Dwarves' Mine and 7038 Troll Assault Wagon in 2008. The arms were also already very similar. Another contender is the wampa in 8089 Hoth Wampa Cave in 2010, as its stance is a bit closer to what we would get later, although it is 100% unique otherwise.

However, this Hulk would be how most bigbigs would be done afterwards for awhile: a special body-head-legs mould with the standard hands from the 2008 trolls and 2012 Hulk's arms.

But in 2013 Mungus in 70134 Laval's Fire Lion they introduced bigfigs with minifig necks, which appeared after that a few times, including on Killow in 70642 Killow vs Samurai X. The latest is the newest Thanos. Those might be the next step in bigfig evolution...?

@Autoboty:
DC got them in April and again in May, but this is the first for Marvel. The set entries are linked to these articles, so it’s easy to figure out by pulling up all the sets for a theme in a given year and do a page search for “random”.

nice set but it lacks structure. and the F-35 looks so bad even for 2012

Combine the two. She-Hulk in a leather catsuit.

Good to know that the Helicarriers are powered by Octan, just like the AT-AT.

By in United Kingdom,

I remember buying this just for the Hulk bigfig. Feels like a waste now I have multiple Hulks, but never mind. I'd like to think I am more discerning now, but I'm probably worse!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I recall this being 60 euro at the time. Outrageous then. And IMHO it would be outrageous now, even without the inflation from the last 10 years factored in.
It wasn't until I tried to buy the first Hulkbuster that I realized that bigfigs take up a good 15 euro from a set's budget apparently.

@Binnekamp:
People threw a fit over 76078, but it had two bigfigs, one of which (Red Hulk) has never been repeated. It also had both green and red versions of She-Hulk, neither of which has ever been repeated. Even the green Hulk has unique deco. Three of the characters from that set will individually set you back about $40 New.

6868 should have been a Space set! Boo!

The 2008 Fantasy Era trolls had different hands (60640 and 60641). The modern day hands introduced with The Hulk are 10126 and 10127. They have 5 fingers instead of 4, are slightly angled and a bit bigger.

Technically the trolls could count, since they probably were inspiring the newer version, but they are more like the what proto-figs are to modern mini-figs (given they use entirely different moulds).

Interestingly, the Cave Troll (and Goblin King) from LotR used a different system as well, despite being released in 2012 as well.

By in Australia,

Not a bad set for the time, but the style of the 2012 Avengers sets haven’t aged the best. Mostly due to the inaccurate minifigures and darker colours.

Kind of like the film to be honest.
