It's another set with chainsaw treads! It's been awhile, how ya doin!
Needs a rudder.
Good old Arctic. I remember this theme was a bit of a breath of fresh (and cold) air, around the turn of the millennium, when Lego City had so little going for it.
Look at that snazzy sunglassed face.
Must be out hunting for Wooly Mammoth coprolites.
I loved the green coats of this line
It's a bit odd that it took them 7 years to make the Ice Planet chainsaw more widely spread available in a more realistic color. Before the grey ones were limited to a few larger sets or sets that were very limited in availability (same goes for the skis).
I also liked the orange 'space nose' part... Some Arctic sets have sticker sheets with a copyright as early as of 1997, which makes me believe the theme was planned to launch much earlier (might explain the 2 cancelled sets as well as some confusing comments from set designers).
The Minifig is called Scooter in Lego Racers 2 and some club magazines (although he's occasssionally refered to as 'Billy'), he seems to be the lowest ranking member of the team, which coincides with him being the most common in sets.
Like most other Arctic characters he reused the X-Treme Team's heads, in Scooter's case it's the one from the guy with white accents (Dex/Maddox). I received a misprinted one of those heads in my then newly opened 6573 - it looks like the mouth was handdrawn :S I kept him that way, because it looks funny...
Oh, and the 2000 Arctic line definitely was not meant to be a sub-theme of Town.
One of my first ever Lego sets, I still remember picking it out at a grocery store when I was really little!
My youngest brother had this as his first set. And 4 of my other siblings had this set as well. I was left alone.
It's okay. It's Blacktron use is extremely limited (But it does have trans neon green 1x1 round plates, and a couple black parts. Not a complete loss.)
"Woooow, that thing really cuts through the snow...and the ice...and the...hey, where he go; I just see a hole on the lake..."
PSA from "Chainsaws aren't Treads":D
One would hardly think it possible to juniorize a 24-piece polybag set. But this was a juniorized version of 1710 Snowmobile—and they even used a part from classic space to do it!
@AllenSmith:
But they also embiggened it, so it’s more powerful.
This was released just into my Dark Ages so I had never seen this set or theme until now.
But having been into Space: Ice Planet theme it strikes me this is like Legos version of what figure lines used to do. Recolour the mold and call it a different figure (See GI Joe Tiger Force or many of the M.A.S.K. figures). We will take a theme and change the colours and call it something else lol.
oh no, too much eyeshadow
That "scooter" piece always amazes me, so many studs on the side!
(N)ice set. Snow scooters are always cool te have. But how will you parka thing like that with saws for threads?
At least it has propulsion. I recall that we saw one with four skis a while ago.
Crazy to think we've had two more arctic subthemes of City since. And crazy to think that this might actually be a stealth 'the thing' esque theme. According to one of the designers that's why there's transparant arachnids in the ice meteors. They're aliens! This guy might be doomed!

That movie always scared the crap outta me... in almost every. single. scene.
This set came in a small box, but there’s also a polybag version, 6626-2, that AFAIK is identical except for lacking the sticker decoration on the front / top. The main set image for the package for both versions is the same, except for the inclusion or absence of the sticker. I assume TLG’s product photographer shot one version of the set and then it was Photoshopped into the other for the other set’s package.
I left my dark ages in the early 2000s, first getting a couple small Star Wars sets, and then this (well, not this exactly, but the aforementioned polybag that’s just like this except for the sticker) was my first non-Star Wars set in my current post-dark-ages era that’s now been going for 20 years or so, bought mainly because it was just a dollar. Oh, the rabbit hole I didn’t know I was entering…
