The Midi-Scale Falcon is the best Millennium Falcon because it gets the proper number of details while also staying proportionate and accurate in shape without being UCS. Also it fits the hand quite nicely so you can easily swoosh it.

The whole midi-scale was a great run, i wish they would do more again.

By in United States,

I like it, but wish the cockpit looked a little better.

@LegoDad_itsforme_:
All both of them? Or are we also counting the Nebulon B?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I never thought I'd be nostalgic for late-2000s Star Wars sets, but here we are.

By in Australia,

I think I saw this at my local Big W in 2013, and did not know what it was (I was only 10 that year). It’s not a bad set on reflection.

......I whent and checked the database imediatly after posting my comment and realized they only did the two...I could have sworn they did more ......LOL

By in Australia,

I prefer the Star Destroyer companion piece.
Wish they'd bring midi-scale back and perhaps with a stand and a figure. Like Han for the Falcon and Tarkin/Imperial Officer for ISD.

@LegoDad_itsforme_:
I wish. I consider Galoob’s Action Fleet line to be the best affordable representations of SW spacecraft, and midi-scale looked like it was going to be the LEGO equivalent.

By in United States,

The one that got away.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like this one. Haven't been able to score one yet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Add me to the list of people who wish they'd done more midi-scale sets. Something from the prequel trilogy would have been nice, maybe a Lucrehulk-class cruiser.

The cockpit is unfortunately too large.

With rising costs. A midi scale would be perfect right now. Some Prequel ships even some Sequel ships would be nice.

By in Canada,

I know I have this, somewhere, from a bulk lot. The lot was split up at some point during a cleanup and I lost track so I don’t know where the fraction containing this went…you know you have too much LEGO when…

Great set though, compact and user-friendly.

By in United States,

I wish they would bring these back to fill the 18+ slots these overpriced dioramas are taking up.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love my midi Star Destroyer. Add me to the list of people who want to see more. Someday I’m going to MOC a Venator-class ship in this scale.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wish we got more midi-scales. Affordable yet well detailed!

Roooaaarrrrrrrrrrr!
Surely you are not a wookie.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I got two of these, in separate bulk stashes!!
One to keep, and one currently for sale!
A very nice, decently-priced set!

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

The scale is perfect to paly with. Reminds me of 90's Micro Machines Star Wars toys. They had mini minifigures that cen fit into the cockpit.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Lego_lord:
The original Micro Machines line featured everything from speederbikes to capital ships that were comparable in size to LEGO Advent Calendar models, and included other IP like Babylon 5 and Star Trek. The line you’re thinking of is Action Fleet (there was also a line of die-cast releases that were about twice the size of the regular Micro Machines), which I think was exclusive to Star Wars, and the characters were about 1” tall with two points of articulation (monolegs at the hips, and both arms as a pair at the shoulder). To date, this is the only toy line I know of that had a legal depiction of either of the Tonnika sisters from the Cantina. Somehow they never signed a contract that gave Lucasfilm free use of their likenesses,
so producing an action figure of one of them would require paying them royalties for every copy sold. Nobody wants to do that, so they don’t get toys. If they were wearing alien masks, it wouldn’t be an issue (masks don’t get paid royalties for use of their likeness), but their faces were visible with no obvious prosthetics.

By the way, a little known bit of trivia is that there were two Millennium Falcon releases. One was the standalone version, but it also came in a 2-pack with a TIE Interceptor as part of the Classic Duel subtheme that came along toward the end of the line. If you get the 2-pack Falcon and remove all the screws so you can separate the upper and lower hull sections, somewhere on the inside is a message to their fans that was etched into the mold between the single-pack and 2-pack runs. I suspect they were aware of the impending cancellation of the line (and maybe the eventual sale of the company to Hasbro), and did this as a final gesture.

The swooshing is the most important.

Shame they never did more midi-scale stuff than this and the Star Destroyer. You get a ship thats a bit better than mini/polybag sets and you don't break the bank doing it, a great middle ground

By in Germany,

$50 minimum

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

We need more midi sets of the classics: a new Falcon, an X-Wing, TIE, snow speeder...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This was one of my charity shop finds. About £2 & was only missing a few easily replaceable parts.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I had this on my desk for years :)
Really did like the concept of this midi range.. an ideal way for people with restricted space and/or budget to get the bigger ships, or even for building a fleet.. A shame they never continued with that line.
Pitty I didn't get the Star Destroyer.. never noticed one in the local shops, and this was before my on-line buying days..

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I loved this set and the midi-ISD, wish that LEGO had continued the line.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@lost_scotsman: A starfighter to this scale would just be one of the polybag mini sets.

@Slave2lego: ISD, not SSD. Actually, the SSD set we got might not be too far off of scale with the midi ISD...

By in United Kingdom,

I purchased this set on eBay some years after it retired. When it arrived it was in perfect condition, unopened and with not a single mark on the box. I fell in love with the art style on the box so much, that I left it unopened and have it on display. I therefore had to buy a used copy of the set so that I could build it.
I'm sure this sounds sad, but when I see them on the shelf together, it makes me happy. ??

By in Netherlands,

I remember seeing this in shops a few times and thinking that for the size and amount of detail it was super expensive. Like, you could buy a decently sized minifig scale ship with the money that has features and playability.

It could just be some weird markup at the store I saw it or something. Like the equivalent of 45 euro in a Swedish store in kroner. Mind you, back then 50 was usually the 2nd to 3rd largest set of a subtheme!

To me, it was a weird case where it's clearly for adults in display-ness but the things you can do with it aren't far from the 2003 mini model.

Of course, nowadays I welcome anything that's at least attempting to provide an affordable alternative, and the MFs have long since been either microfighters, flagship sets or ULTIMATE ultimate collectors sets (as in the most costly lego model ever, so far).
So ehm, midi scale would be nice around now!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Oh Man, I Really Liked the Midi-scale versions.

I remember that I had al lot of fun building them.

Pity they didn't make more of them (only 2 or 3 if I can remember Correctly)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I prefer this scale to micro as the designer can add a lot more detail to increase realism. Although the higher price means that this is over-lapping with other Star Wars mini-fig spaceships and vehicles, so probably less popular at the time with kids.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I really don't like midi-scale sets. I want minifigs to interact with my sets, so I prefer the 3 microfighters. I do own this one, but it does nothing for me. I'm keeping it just because it's part of my MF collection. But I don't even display it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love this set. It is a perfect compliment to Slave 1 with 75222.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have this and like it, though I was always disappointed that it used stickers. Also…

Same here. I always thought if they’d used the hollow version of the 4x4x2 cone, with no studs, and printed the front of the Falcon cockpit on a 2x2 slider and stuck it on a couple 2x2 round bricks put inside the cone, that would have looked so much better.

Still, pretty nice. I’d be up for them doing something similar now and including trophy-type nanofigures of Han and Chewie to display underneath.

This is hands down better than all of the diorama sets combined:
1) This scale is such a better display piece than the dioramas.
2) It’s instantly recognizable while the dioramas need a name tag for people other than the owner to understand what it’s supposed to be.
3) Better value because ~75% of the diorama set pieces are 1x1 and 1x2 elements.
4) Midi-scale sets swoosh!
5) Midi-scale can present a detailed model of a large ship without costing over $80.

Change my mind… =-)

@TheOtherMike:
Old-school specs put the SSD at five times the length of an ISD. Eyeball specs from the movie show that’s not possible. I think the SSD specs were revised to 10-11x the length of an ISD, which fits better if you assume the bridge tower is the same size on both, but I don’t know if the specs have been further revised.

@graymattr:
2. The recent trio of dioramas represent some of the most iconic scenes of the OT, so anyone who needs a plaque to figure out what they are clearly hasn’t watched the films in the first place.
3. That’s a gross exaggeration. 75530 doesn’t have that high a ratio, even with a pile of essentially-free trans-green 1x1 tiles and plates.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Love this MF. I have it above my desk together with the smaller version on top and the even tinier ones (from SW magazine gifts) underneath.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was the first Star Wars set I ever wanted, I hadn’t seen it up to that point but I thought it was so cool regardless and got it for Christmas that year. I still have it in decent shape !

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

This scale certainly makes great display models.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was one of my favorite sets as a kid, would rebuild it all the time.
I love this scale, I'd love to see it come back with today's engineering

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The only set that's been out on display for 13 years now. Apart from the Star Destroyer...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love the midi-scale ships. Could have used a few more. I did see someone on Youtube a while back do a midi-scale super star destroyer class. Certainly looks just as good as the UCS one.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

I bought cut up without knowing if it was complete 3 years ago for €20 . It was missing 7 or 8 pieces, none of them exclusive. Love this piece of junk. :-)
