Hey @huw

Regarding the BrickLink Designer Program, can you get an answer from LEGO as to why the price BrickWest Studios (even after the minifigures were removed following the Rust shooting) has been raised $70? It’d be great to get an answer before the program launches in less than 3 days.

Thank you!

Not that I would have a reason to remember this set being a big Star Wars guy, but even for something from 2011, I should remember it. That's one of the downsides to the blank white backgrounds, a lot of context is missing from how the sets are usually shown off in Magazines, and of course the Box Art that help them make a lasting impression even if you don't buy the set.

MUCH better than the current equivalent--60328.

I remember a little flash game about the seaside theme that year. For some reason I couldn't get to the last level. Does anyone have an archive of it?

It's nice, but it still feels like the low-cost version of the epic Marina from 1994.

I just assembled the boat part and the others are still in the original bags....

One is a LIFEGUARD station and the other is a MARINA. They aren't even close to the same thing. "

Yeah thats true, but neither hold a candle to the real Crystal King 8962

With all the random comments off topic, I thought I might like some pancakes.

LOL Huwbot has been reading the forum! Big Huwbot is Watching You.

We have been discussing the greatness of Sail and Fly Marina as well as the unexplained absence of a harbour theme for City since 2011.

We have had the occasional yacht (sorry 'fishing boat') or racing boat since then but no more cargo ships, marinas, any harbour stuff really.

As Julius Sumner Miller used to say: Why Is It So? I don't get it. Kids love boats (especially ones that float), and especially cargo ships and cranes are very popular, loading and offloading which also works great with other truck or train sets.

A proper marina like Sail and Fly would be an awesome set, I always found this one to be a tad disappointing.
The dive shop and diving boat are cool, but overall it's not much of a marina, plus I never quite understood the bridge part and box art which made it look like it was in an inlet or estuary rather then a marina.

Man I always begged my dad for this set back in the day, but never got my hands on it. There have been a few other Marinas over the years, but this puppy was my favorite!

Biomedia Project had a subsite called something along the lines of LEGOmedia Project back in the day. It hasn't been updated in ages and I've never gotten any of the games to work, but it has the files for a lot of the old LEGO Flash games available to download. If you're tech savy you could probably stitch it back up from what they've got.

The windsurfer’s sail is luffing, so he’s clearly new at this. The wind direction indicated by the flags backs me up on this. The lifeguard station is unoccupied, so unless the guy with the binoculars is paying attention to him, dude’s probably going to capsize and drown. Nobody is patronizing the Paradise Cafe, but the shop on the first floor appears to have stolen their ladder. I’m not sure what the dohickey on the rollbar on the rubber raft is for, but they’re missing at least one navigation light. The colored lights should each be visible in a 120° arc on either side, starting at the bow, but there’s also supposed to be a white light visible 360°. Red and white are visible from port, green and white from starboard, just white from directly astern to 60° on either side, and all three should be visible from dead ahead. The colored lights look like they might meet international requirements (both should be visible from ahead, both are completely blocked from behind, and you probably can’t see both from either side without being in an aircraft or high up on a mast.

I love this set. So many good Lego sets for harbor/marina/beach.

I'm also thinking calling it "Paradise Cafe" is a nod to the Paradisa subtheme.

Thought for a moment that this was the Speed Champions 'Run out of Ideas' Set!

I’m a fan of anything nautical themed in Lego. There’s just so many opportunities for play.

Maybe it’s just because she’s stood under the Paradise Café but starry shirt on the right does look like a throwback to the style of minifigs from Paradisa

I remember buying this back in June 2011 - I made a diorama on a dresser with some blue construction paper (mimicking water), the Marina, 4641, 4642, 7639, a few other sets, and a brick-built beach. Fun times!

It needs to be put on a blue base, but I always really liked this set. Never owned it, but recently built it from parts in my collection, but in Paradisa colors to complement my Paradisa display. Worked out really well (the old Paradisa catalogue pics showed that there was a lagoon in that area).

Ah yes, almost got this set second hand for about $40-50. Not sure why I passed it up.

Don’t kid yourself. If USD and EUR prices aren’t the same, City sets seem to always be higher in Europe.

294 pieces for FIFTY DOLLARS!!! What is LEGO trying to get away with!? Those greedy…

Oh wait…what? ;)

By in Croatia,

I have this set! It's perfect base set. Watch tower 10/10, remove stairs, and make bigger store and caffe, surfer 10/10, and that "rubber" boat is realistic 10/10! Love it!

Always nice when a set I own is picked for this. Picked this one up in a sale, was nice to have a City set that wasn't police or fire.

By in France,

A marina was a great addition for the harbor sets. The playability seems nice, but is is far from its predecessor, the iconic "Sail n fly marina" 6543 from 1994. With 709 parts, it was a massive set, with 1 plane, 3 boats, 1 truck... Unbeatable, with a wonderful design.
