I remember this time. Back when Castle was still around and prevalent. Good old days.

This seems like an actually fitting candidate for an 18+ set if LEGO would remake it!

Boy, Arkham's really falling to pieces, they don't even have full buildings to house these guys anymore. No wonder they always escape!

Nightwing really overdid it with the sculpting gel.

Ninja castle pieces as roof sections. Hi-yah!

That Riddler minifigure has one of Lego's creepiest faces (although he has plenty of competition).

In the darkest night, huh
I make the bad guys fall, huh
There's a million heroes
BUT I'M THE BEST OF THEM ALL!
Who has the coolest gadgets? (BATMAN!)
Who has the tricked out ride? (BATMAN!)
Who does the sickest backflips? (BATMAN!)
NANANANANANA BATMAN!

By in United States,

Definitely a product of its time, same design stylings as all the City sets of the same year. I think I picked this up for a huge discount somewhere at the time, otherwise I never would have pulled the trigger.

There is a torture room in this set. not okay lego!

By in United States,

I really love that Batman theme from 2006-2008.

By in United States,

I really love this theme! thats why I got all of the sets!

I just had most of the Nightwing from this set stolen off our layout over Labor Day weekend, along with the customized motorcycle he was riding.

If the roof was dark bluish gray, it would be good for updating old sand green Hogwarts sets to fit with the dark bluish gray roofed ones. But it's actually light bluish gray, probably a lighting error or miscoloring given this is an early CG render for the box art.

I used to oggle over this all the time as a kid, though that was mostly for the Nightwing figure.

Funnily enough those two side towers would fit pretty well on top of today's Random Part of the Day

By in United States,

I remember the LEGO Batman videogame; it was very good.

This set is fitting given the recent announcements of the sets for The Batman movie.

By in United States,

I remember the local TRU having a whole shelving unit of these, and the batcaves for like 50% off, and not buying any, then seeing them rise in price through the years...

Oh boy, I would love if they gave Arkham the full Daily Bugle treatment! (Would also want to see that for the Hall of Justice or Daily Planet, but this seems a little more plausible given the state of Lego DC...)

I want this one so bad. Such a cool scarecrow!

By in Australia,

Wow, this hasn’t aged well. I’d love to see an 18+ variant of this soon.

That said, I do like the Scarecrow and Nightwing figures.

Who always pays their taxes? (NOT BATMAN)

I was lucky enough to get this set for my birthday in 2006. Super fond memories of building it and playing with it.

Honestly kind of shocked to see some negative comments here. It's way better than any of the other Arkham Asylums they've done to date, especially the LEGO Batman Movie one. Also, this is happens to be my favorite Batman set of all time. It's just so good in person and it's not surprising how expensive it's become over the years.

The Batman 2006-2008 theme had so many sets I wanted, but could never find. I still stand by that the theme had had the best Batcave, Arkham Asylum (2013 is a close second), and minifigures. Even compared to the modern DC builds, some sets of this theme still hold up today

For Batman fans who were so before there was a Lego theme for it, this first incarnation of Arkham was a magnificent appearance. Especially given the inclusion of Nightwing. Not too far removed from the magic of being a Star Wars fan all your life and then finding the first landspeeder or X-Wing set on the shelf in 1999. This hit at the perfect time for me in that way (…and also happened to snag it at an insane discount). It remains my favorite version
of Nightwing (albeit with alternate hairpiece). And the villain designs are perfect & simple as well — especially love how Poison Ivy’s costume here is seemingly modeled after her Batman: The Animated Series look.

It is kind of fascinating how unpopular those original Batman sets were at the time compared to today. Nowdays, it feels like any crap LEGO puts out that has the Batman logo on it always sells. But back then, people just didn't seem to be that interested in buying Batman LEGO sets at all. Which is really strange, given how this was around the time when the Christopher Nolan Batman movies came out, so interest in the character should have been at an all time high.
For reference, just have a quick look at the amount of Brickset members that own those original Batman sets compared to the more recent ones. The difference is pretty staggering...

This set has been on my radar multiple times when I am looking for that 6x8 preformed roof in light bluish grey; still exclusive :[

First showing for basically every character who isn’t Batman in this set I think

By in Poland,

A year ago, I won this set at an auction on Catawiki in MiSB state for € 170 (less than $ 200). This was less than half the lowest price.

I suspect that says more about the kind of person that's on Brickset. I thought they were cool, they were just too expensive for me to buy at that age.

Curious how the guards neither appeared in any other sets, maybe they couldn't find work anywhere else after so many escapes. At the time everyone who was interested in Batman went for the Batcave 7783 first as this was more playable with the different levels inside. A more up-to-date single building version that looked more like a playable Asylum prison from the inside would be great.

@Nokturn:
This has some rare pieces that people find desirable, but it’s a bit anemic. I don’t know whether the DCS or TLBM version ranks highest, but I do remember when the DCS Arkham was revealed, honest opinions about this first attempt were not kind.

@deathmoth:
The newest version of Nightwing has a very similar torso print. Poison Ivy looks so close to her B:TAS design that I got a spare and gave her her an orange 2001 Hermione hair. She’s not the only character to borrow that look. Joker, Harley, and Two-Face from the original Batman theme are also clearly patterned after their B:TAS character designs.

@LegoDavid:
In the US, the way things seemed to play out was the original launch, which followed on the heels of Batman Begins, sold really well, especially the Catwoman and Killer Croc sets. The following year, only two sets were released, with Bane being the only new character, and Batman getting one new costume. These didn’t sell very well, so retailers placed smaller orders for the third year, and it was decided to conclude the theme following that launch. Harley was the only new character, and again Batman got one new costume (and Robin got a haircut), with four new sets. This time, however, The Dark Knight trailers were generating so much buzz that the final wave of sets was a blink-and-you-miss-it release. I bought two copies of each set the first time I spotted them, and never saw them again. I have no idea if you would have had better luck at a LEGO Store, because we didn’t get one locally until 2010, and I didn’t make it to Brickworld Chicago until 2009.

@Brickalili:
For the original run, this was the only appearance of Poison Ivy and Nightwing. Riddler and Scarecrow both made a second appearance in the 2007 wave.

Sorry to read that, it really sucks.
Although I always find it ironic/funny when people steal toys of crime fighters...

This looks so much more interesting compared to those new The Batman sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These Batman sets are interesting in that they are the prototypes for the Super Hero-era sets; by the same token, this is why I limit my collecting to Super Hero sets and up. While the Castle-influenced design of this set is charming, I find both 10937: Batman: Arkham Asylum Breakout and 70912: Arkham Asylum to be much less like a medieval inn and much more like an imposing institutional structure.

By in United States,

I remember getting this set for Christmas as a kid and playing with it for hours, specially since I'd also received the Batmobile/Two face set. One that always thought was interesting is that the packaging shows the model built as you see it but the instructions show the lower half of the two tower buildings as being turned 180 around! Which admittedly makes sense than having .. outdoor jail cells? XD

@kdu2814:
In 2014, I also had a Flash minifig stolen. Someone ripped it right out of my Flash trail, which is a modular motion blur that consists of over 13,000pcs, and over 55’ of trail. What’s worse, it was one that was actually embedded in the construction with a running pose, and getting the replacement back in seemed a lot trickier than building the original in had seemed.
