That guy's got a classic space patch on his jacket. I refuse to believe that a true LEGO fan would resort to a life of crime. He must have mugged a LEGO fan and taken his jacket.

Ah yes, the classic scene from Spider Man 2 where he chases a skateboarding jewel thief with a comically giant backpack.

Huwbot's enjoying the predecessor Superhero themes this week. Spider-man's a bit more in my wheelhouse than Batman: the Spider-Man 2 stuff sort of transitioned out of the last memories of the Studios theme into the realm of just being a straight-up licenced theme. I wasn't super-interested in them, but they are a part of the mid-2000s LEGO landscape.

This one's not bad: I liked the dark-blue Spider-man at the time, the street-sign pieces were cool, and I would have been all over that Classic Space logo-bearing jacket (those took quite a while to become passé for me). The design of the set is a bit thin, but that's not exactly unusual, in that era or any other, and would really come down to the pricepoint. Three figs and some window-dressing for $10 wasn't too bad.

WARNING! SPOILERS FOR SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME!

(I missed the part where that's my problem)

I like how the thief is displaying the jewels on the back of his trike.

Stealing diamonds is the only way he can afford to buy old Lego space sets.

Is that a trans blue spider? Thats a cool piece! Also, plot twist: Spider Man couldnt care less about the 500,000$ worth of diamonds being stolen, he just wants his sick skateboard back!

This...isn’t Batman. This is like getting carob bars in your Halloween candy.

By in United Kingdom,

I like these original Spider-Man movie series sets. I always wanted the bridge with the cable car, but sadly was in my dark ages then.

This wasn't in the film right? There should be at least a couple of pizza elements.

There are few tragedies greater than LEGO losing the Spider-Man license before Spider-Man 3 (2007), AKA the Single Greatest Cinematic Work of All Time. Citizen Kane, Seven Samurai, The Godfather, The Seventh Seal might all be great films, but none of those have emo Tobey Maguire, so Citizen Kane can be content with the 2 spot.

By in Canada,

Old greys and browns but non-yellow heads and hands for random baddies. A unique time.

Edit: double-checked and I was mistaken. The modern colours are already here.

By in United States,

Hot take: Skateboard Guy is actually helping Spider-Man; note the design on his board. The jewel he's holding is the only one he was able to recover before the thief got on his trike and drove off.

By in Turkey,

Only interesting things in this set are the radioactive spider and the Spiderman himself. The rest is just forgettable for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Why does the baddie have a Spider-Man themed skateboard?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I find the use of the classic City crook face in this licensed set so hilarious...

I feel like I need to be concerned that you might launch into a rant about “leaving Britney alone” next.

Adjusting for inflation, this set would be $16-18 USD today.

New Yorkers: Get rid of those pointless stunt ramps, it will improve your traffic situation.

By in United Kingdom,

It's always so weird seeing familiar yellow minifigure faces reprinted on flesh-tone heads. I think there were a few times it happened, but this is easily the most obvious, since that grinning face with the gold tooth can ONLY be associated with Lego City criminals, in my mind...

Never seen these Spider-Man movies. I've highly enjoyed his MCU entries though, as well as Into the Spider-Verse, so maybe I should give them a try sometime...

Bully Maguire immortalised in LEGO!

This was one of the lesser expensive ways of getting a hold of that Classic Space jacket at the time. There were a few cheaper sets, but sometimes those were hard to come by.

It was very exciting for a Spacer to see that beautiful golden planet and starship again.

EDIT: Actually I just checked BL, and at the time it was either this set or the World City train station. The jacket wouldn’t be available in inexpensive sets for a few more years.

I can tell that you were slightly sarcastic, but seriously though; Spider-Man 3 is very underrated."

I like it less than The Seventh Seal but more than Citizen Kane.

I like it more than Battlefield Earth...I assume. But that’s more a criticism of Battlefield Earth than an endorsement of Pajama Boy.

Within a few constraints, yeah. I think it's something like, the sets that are eligible to be picked have to:
Be from ten years ago or more.
Have more than ten pieces.
Not have been picked for RSotD before (exception made for sets that have been released under multiple different numbers).

There are a few themes excluded as well, such as Duplo. And occasionally, there will be exceptions; for the date of Ninjago's tenth anniversary, for example, the pool Huwbot could pick from was shrunk to just be the 2011 Ninjago sets, to guarantee that a fitting set would be picked that day, while still maintaining an element of randomness; but that's only happened twice, as far as I'm aware (the other occasion being one April Fools' day, where the pool was reduced to just Clikits sets as a joke).

Otherwise though, yeah: within those criteria, the sets are picked fully at random ^^

And yet, it might only sell for $12.99 given Lego inflation.
