These are not the rebel scouts you are looking for

This was a really exciting set because after almost 10 years of LEGO Star Wars, we were finally getting figures of some of the first characters seen ever in Star Wars, which were of course, Rebel Troops in their vests and long white helmets. I find it to be a clever solution to use the helmet visor to fill in the black part of the helmet, even if it's not 100% accurate in shape to the black section in the movies because it allows for some customization. You could throw in any translucent color you wanted, maybe the brown one used for the Hoth Rebel from the 1999 Snowspeeder, a metallic gold one from Mars Mission, you could make a whole new ranking system for your Rebels. LEGO was pretty smart when designing the Rebel helmet.

I loved this set when I was a kid! May have been my first BP

I love their ultra-serious faces. They’re like the Citizen Brick neutral face

This might’ve been my first LEGO Star Wars set, I don’t remember ever having it in one piece if I’m going to be honest. The Rebel Troopers and how many you get are cool, though, especially since you get so many of them in this while they’re very difficult to find otherwise. I’d prefer a helmet with the black thing printed on since they’d probably be able to make the shape even more accurate if they did that but overall I’d say these are pretty solid figures. Save for the black dot eyes with no irises, I think they fixed those in other themes by this point.

I regret only getting one of these. I'd like a bigger Rebel army.

Maybe it's just the nostalgia talking, but this was one of my favorite battle packs of all time. The build of the speeder was so unique, and the rotating cannon was the cherry on top for playability.

I was never sure if this thing was ever a part of either canon, so if there's any Star Wars aficionados out there, is it? And if so, do it's manufactures have anything to do with the people who built those defense Speeders in Theed Palace on Naboo?

Ah, the days when BP had figures armed with blasters and not oversized hairdryers that launch units of construction...

One of my first sets!

For a second I forget stud guns existed, and was thinking of the old megaphone guns they gave everyone (and still Battle Droids for the first Droid Battle Pack)

I love this set so much! Probably one of a handful of sets that properly got me into Lego : ) Lovely to see it again!

By in United States,

I didn't see Star Wars until I was well into LEGO, so I had a bunch of City and Creator sets but always flipped through Star Wars in my catalogues. Once I did finally watch the OT, it took another year or so before it worked it's way into my LEGO budget and this set was waiting for me when that time rolled around. Like a few others have already said, it was my first proper Star Wars set.
So as not to let the Rebels become bored and directionless in life, I also bought the companion 7667 Imp battle pack, and thus my SW collecting days were begun.

A cool little speeder but I generally ignore the suggestion to put a figure seated in the turret. They seem a bit exposed and unbalanced up there, it works far better as unmanned

Four identical figures?

With normal weaponry?

You CAN do it, LEGO!

Gravatar
By in United States,

$10 for all THAT? Mama like.

By in Canada,

Hmmm...(racks brain back to WEG's Star Wars RPG)...don't remember that style of speeder...I mean: I know the Snowspeeder is also a Sandspeeder (and a Swampspeeder, and I think Seaspeeder...thanks WEG), and the 'Turbo Tank' was also WEG's; but I can't think where (if anywhere) I saw that build before...

By in Latvia,

Don't remember this scene in the movie. Must be a deleted one.

One of the greatest. Only problem was that the helmets come off the heads way too easily. Throw these troopers in a bin and their helmets pretty much instantly separate themselves from the heads. Gotta find them again whenever I want to pull the rebels out.

This (along with the corresponding stormtrooper pack 7667) was never part of either the Legends or Canon continuity, but rather an original Lego creation. This places it, along with all the lego original star wars stuff under the Infinities continuity, which contains all the official but non-canonical star wars media.

I always knew the rebels were out-numbered but only 4 other rebel packs, 75131 , 75133 , 75164 , 8083 to 25-30 (depending on whether you include droids) Republic battle packs makes defeating the Empire a tall order.

Without exaggeration, this set is my favourite LEGO set of all time.

When it was released, My Dad and I went around all the local stores but they were sold out. It took us a few weeks to find it and to this day he remembers how elated I was as a kid, jumping in triumph. We built it together at home and those Rebel Troopers were involved in so many battles. The speeder was cool too with the detachable swivel cannon.

That’s what LEGO is about to me, the memories as well as the playability!

Great set, but the small stickers were terrible.

@Mr__Thrawn:
Eh, to be fair, these guys didn’t seem to have many bright futures ahead of them. I mean, besides the guy who had to stand on top of a pole, they pretty much all died in the opening battle (all the ones at the medal ceremony were cardboard cutouts, because all the real people were dead).

Every time I've tried getting one of these on Bricklink or eBay, it's turned up with loads of sun damage :P I think between two or three copies I can probably make one unbleached one!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Had I known how rare these guys were I would have bought two rather than one.

While the use of a visor for the black section is definitely a good idea, I've always wondered why the large visor like that on RAC033s wasn't used instead - the shaping would be more accurate to the film. Now that I look at it though, it seems that piece only appeared in chrome colours. Is there any other example of a piece being color locked to chrome?

Ah, this was my first Star Wars set. Still one of my favourites

By in United States,

I was so delighted by this set. I’d started coming out of my dark ages about five or six years earlier, and by this time I was deeply back into the bricks I’d first loved when I was a kid in the ‘70s but had dropped as a teen in the ‘80s, but my funds were limited and I despaired at the prospect of affording all the copies I wanted of this - I knew I’d want a slew of Rebel troops. I wound up getting twelve copies of this set, most of which are still sealed (for years I’ve been accruing sets more quickly than building them, as I work on a LEGO room so I can finally assemble and display stuff, sort parts, etc.), but I’ve loved building a portion of this Rebel army. I look forward to eventually using them all for a Yavin IV awards ceremony.

This set is one I often think about as a counterexample whenever I see people allege that the licensed themes are inherently always overpriced. I always think about how this set and its Imperial complement were out at the same time as 8401 City Minifigure Collection (released a year later, but both sets lasted a while and their periods of availability overlapped), which is honestly still a really nice set and a bit of a godsend for City fans at the time, but this set and that one both offer four Minifigures, and this has by far the more substantial build, with more pieces. That one does offer more diversity amongst its figures, of course, and one more decorated element than this thanks to the tile on the boom box, but this has four copies of a new mold, and the identical figures are ones one would want multiples of (though admittedly some ethnic and gender diversity would be nice, even though as-is the set perfectly represents the white dudes seen in these uniforms in the original movie). I always looked at the two sets and felt the Star Wars theme was offering a bit more for ten bucks than the City one was at the time (and that City set was still quite a nice set for the money; I got a couple copies of that, too, but I got six times as many of this, mainly because it was *the* way to get lots of Rebel troops).

The vehicle gave me (still gives me, I should say) a great nostalgic recollection of Kenner’s similar filling out of the SW universe with vehicles that were just “offscreen”. The “mini-rig” vehicles they produced for the original SW action figure toy line were delightful things a kid could easily think of as canon even though they weren’t really so, and this one is like those but even better, both for having a design that's more of its own thing than most of those were while still looking unmistakably “Star Wars-y”, and also for accommodating more figures than those typically did.

One of the first battle packs I bought multiples of, along with the 2007 Clone BP. Well, I only own two of each, but still...

Gravatar
By in United States,

i accidentally had to in my cart when I ordered some other sets from this line, and that was the best mistake I made. still have all 8 guys. swapped one guy's visor for goggles, gave him tan pants and made him a rebel vanguard from battlefront 1.

You know, when I take a closer look, I actually think I might have this set!

@rishi_eel:
Technically, every part that comes in chrome is locked to chrome colors, because they have to cut different molds to make chrome vs opaque vs transparent parts. As far as shapes go, there are still a few that I know are exclusively designed for chrome colors. These include:

71075 - Brick, Round 1 x 1 d. 90 Degree Elbow - No Stud - Type 1
71076 - Brick, Round 1 x 1 x 1 2/3
71183 - Bar 1L with 1 x 1 x 2/3 Light Holder
71184 - Bar 4.5L with Stop Ends
71612cx1 - Cone Spiral - Rock Raiders Drill
x85 - Dish 2 x 2 x 2/3 Light Reflector

This is not an exhaustive list, but these are all parts that were only designed for chrome. Note that there are two pairs of sequential design numbers in that mix, so those were probably developed for one model together.

@Blondie_Wan:
Nearly 20 years ago, I got so sick of the whinging about SW sets having a license surcharge tacked on that I ran the numbers in the entire then-current LEGO.com catalog. I only checked minifig-based themes, and excluded any weird stuff (polybags, those minifig 3-packs that existed right around the same time, and anything with electronics or huge single-use parts). World City averaged $0.11/pc, while SW came in at a mere $0.09/pc. And of course it did absolutely nothing to shut up all the complaints about SW having a licensing surcharge. Some people just won’t let facts get in the way of a good tantrum.

So cool. Always wanted this one.

By in United Kingdom,

I got loads of this set. Loved all the Rebel Fleet Troopers, I could reenact battles from Battlefront with them. I wish the next wave of battle packs in 2022 stick to 4 of the same trooper.
