Hmmmm... Only 42 pieces. Relatively small, but for 42 parts, the build itself is physically of a decent size. Does this fit the current trend or not?

I love these small space sets. They're just fun and quaint and classic.

Oh, that printed black box door on the top is Beautiful.

Great video review Jang!

Well, well... This Super Nova is burning and screaming Lego out of it...

I miss the old days when you could build a simple spaceship with only 42 pieces.

And the colour scheme... Let's order some transparent green shall we?

By in Portugal,

Believe it or not, as far as I remember I was already into the DarkAges when both Blacktrons were released. When I come back last year, those Trans-Neon-Green panels looked absolutely marvelous.. and they still do.

Anything under the 3177's piece count (43) would qualify in my book, unless it is a polybag.

Blacktron Super Car. Love this set!

By in Venezuela,

Blacktron Future Generation's one of my favourite Space factions (only Ice Planet 2002 beats it in my eyes). It's true they can feel, to paraphrase LEGO Space: the Comic, like "Blacktron going legit", but if that means becoming such an aesthetic force of organised crime, I'm sold.
I've gotta get an Allied Avenger someday...

By in United States,

Huwbot is nostalgic for small sets from the 90s and frankly I’m loving it

An early classic for me

All Hail Classic Space

By in Australia,

It really is such a great, cute little design. It's hard to fault. These days, it'd be 100 pieces and cost $400.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I don't know... Looks like a pretty regular Nova to me. “Slightly-above-average Nova” at best.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I never was to big of a fan of Blacktron: Future Generation compared to the original Blacktron. I felt like there was too much white in the color scheme

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Although I prefer the first Blacktron 1 sets, I wouldn't mind having some of the series 2 sets. This is certainly one of them.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Think Huwbot seems to have jammed, might need some percussive maintenance :)

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Love how huwbot has been showing us space sets these days. But now would be the time for the best theme of all, Futuron ;)

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

Really nice set. I remember buying it together with 6887 and 6898 in the United Nations PX in Pleso, Croatia, some time in 1994.
That was during a short period of enlightenment in my dark age :-)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Loved the colour scheme when this theme came out, and still do. The combination of black, white and any shade of green or transparent-green is my all-time favorite.

By in Hungary,

My first Lego Space set, which sparked my interest about anything space or sci-fi related. I have three of this little ship, and over the years, I collected the whole Blacktron 2 series, and built a bunch if ships and robots with the same color scheme.

I can't not love this. :)

You stole my words. I also feel that they wanted to use trans-neon green just because it was a new color having been introduced in M:Tron a year before, not because it fits in particularly well (it doesn't).

There's still one B2 set on my wanted list - 6887 Allied Avenger. The design of that set is actually quite unique.

By in Poland,

I didn't have it as a child, but now I have it as an AFOL - one is in MISB condition and the other one was bought as used. This set is so cool. Its all alternative builds are good as well! For me the golden era of the Space theme was during the release of Space Police I, Blacktron, M-Tron and Blacktron II related sets. So good memories...

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

I have this car!

Gravatar
By in United States,

As much as I like the original Blacktron more, Blacktron 2 is still awesome. I especially like about it those Trans-Neon Green cockpits that had the Blacktron logo printed on.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Oh man, I have this. This is easily one of my most played sets from back when I was a kid. It's small, but very swooshable. It's wings move, it came with a spare plate computer to fit in the container which can open and close. It also has 2 forward laser cannons...or scanner.
It's just a perfect little set to let your imagination go wild.

So many space battle with the MTron and scenes from Starwars that were imitated.

I feel like building it when I get home. :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

A shame it doesn’t have one of those distinctive bubble cockpits this generation of Blacktron favoured but still a nifty little set. Love that still has the four wings that the other flyers of this range tended to have

The small sets keep coming ...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

that printed container <3

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Nexo knight 2018 villains were almost-blacktron colors, other color of bright green, but black/white/green all the same, but that was a very short wave.

Other then that, I love 90s space for sure, compared to 20 years of Star Wars.

By in United States,

Blacktron II is one of those themes where I think the smaller sets look better than the larger "flagship" designs. This one and 6887 Allied Avenger make for a great patrol pair in space...

Translucent green. Let’s order translucent green.

Did anyone else notice that there aren’t any side panels around the cockpit, so the driver would just be sucked out into the vacuum of space.

I guess the spaceship could just be used in a planet’s atmosphere but, even then, there would two things wrong. The first is that the word ‘spaceship’ would be completely unacceptable, seeing as space itself isn’t involved. The second is that the pilot would just slip out of the cockpit and fall to their death.

Happy thoughts.

By in United States,

This is a good one, another set pulled from the massive garage sale haul my mom brought home to me back in 1994. Unlike larger sets found in this pile, like the Allied Avenger and Aerial Intruder, I was able to start piecing this set back together without the instructions I ended up finding on Brickshelf in 2001. Images I found from old catalogs were of high of enough quality that I pretty much got the ship correct, and as such, it found a lot of playtime with me as a scout vehicle I swooshed about the room. For a long time, it and the Grid Trekkor, Tri-Wheeled Tyrax, and Sub-Orbital Guardian were the entire Blacktron Future Generation fleet!
I liked especially the adjustable wings and the box to hold the stolen data tile. I didn't really see Blacktron as the bad guys until I visited my cousin and discovered his Space Police Rebel Hunter set with its Blacktron prisoner. I think that was my first inkling of conflict within the happy world of Lego. Too bad Blacktronian and Space Police alike are now both wiped out.

C’mon, he’s got a bar there to protect him. What more do you want?

There was a time, before 2002 that LEGO had a slogan "Just Imagine..." , and those Space themes were the pinnacle of that.

There was no need for "realism" or laws of physics, on everything, it was a kid's toy, and even now I can appreciate those older space designs.

If it were based on like a NASA spacecraft, I'd agree, but this is a fantasy theme by LEGO themselves.

I do favor in-house LEGO sets/themes as they aren't bound by some external rules/story/realism.

By in United States,

That's a good Huwbot, two classic space in a row, keep'em comin'!

This is one of the ones I missed back in the day and ended up ordering parts to create decades later.

> There was a time, before 2002 that LEGO had a slogan "Just Imagine..."
Yes, before the dark days. Before Star Wars... (Ok, I do like SW, but it's pretty much responsible for killing the Space theme save the couple odd, short-lived Mars themes)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Still got the box for this and the price tag states £3.29. Bargain.

I wish those hinges would make a comeback.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool set. One of my favorites as a kid.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wound up getting two of this set as a kid. Do like early 1990s Space theme, at least when I was growing up.

And is Huwbot going on a Space binge this week?

Not, really. There isn't much of a cockpit, and the pilot is in full spacesuit costume, so there'd be no environment of normal pressure or oxygen in the first place. The ship's just a seat with a windshield, which means it's probably used for travelling around in a low-pressure environment in the first place.

Even if he lifted off, from a planet-side launching area, the air would naturally fall away as he left the planet (although the turbulence would cause some problems, but maybe he's strapped in with straps that we can't see?). Plus, the vacuum of space doesn't really work like that -- equilibrium (between an area of normal pressure and oxygen, and the empty space of space) is reached in less than a second, which is how long the hard-sucking-vacuum would last.

Did Jens Nygaard Knudsen design this one? RIP Jens.
