Random set of the day: Safari Off-Road Vehicle

Today's random set is 6672 Safari Off-Road Vehicle, released in 1990. It's one of 28 Town sets produced that year. It contains 67 pieces and 2 minifigs.
It's owned by 2860 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

This has got to be one of the only zoo/safari System sets ever? Zoo/Safari would be a fantastic City sub-theme for 2020.
One of the oldest sets I own, actually. I think the roof and back of the cab are used right now in a small truck MOC.
Those shock absorber axles were so cool. I loved those so much as a kid.
I was just looking at this yesterday on here and thinking how awesome those suspended axles are. I'll have to bricklink some sometime.
Ok, those zebra print doors are perfection.
The first LEGO set I owned, and my first monkey!!!
Has that suspension system been matched since? They were an unbelievable piece, notably used superbly in set 2160. Watch the Jang video on that one for good measure.

1990. The event horizon of greatness. After two straight years of greater and greater set designs and new themes, Lego sets crossed over into highland portion of the Golden Age of the System. This small set, typical of its time, is innovative, cool, and fun to play with. Even though it isn't part of my collection, admiring it makes me wish I did. Already I envision all the adventures contained within that one set. Even with the explicit name, there is enough ambiguity with the set itself to suggest all manner of things. Zoo tour? Safari at the edge of the African rainforest? Pet monkey on the loose in the Australian Outback? Ahh, the possibilities!
Only 6 sets with that suspension? ( if i’m counting correctly ) 2 from ‘89, 1 from ‘90 and 3 from ‘92 ? If so , I own 4/6. For such a innovative piece, that’s quite rare. High costs?
Truly a classic small set. I had the very similar tow truck, but this one was just so beautiful and full of rare parts!
Take 66 parts, a super designed, specific and efficient shock absorber one, a little magic, and you have a great toy and many adventures to play.
@namekuji That's a different suspension piece (Technic-based) in 2160.
I am so glad I have one of the sets with those shock absorber pieces. If I had to vote for the coolest LEGO piece ever, this would be my number one choice, hands down.
I guess it was prohibitively expensive to produce for LEGO, because there would be tons of uses for it even today. Let alone if TLG had later produced six- or eight-stud-wide versions of it.
And did anyone notice, the zebra design on the doors appears to spell the word "joy". Coincidence?

This is the oldest set in my/my son’s collection.
At the moment it’s in the back of the breakdown truck 60017.
Still a great set.
I have multiple of this set. The shock suspension on this truck made the set. (the monkey is nice as well!) It's really a great little set.
It was fun to play with when I got it and after I grew out of the city part of Lego this set added lots of great pieces to play with. Like the laser cannon/camcorder and suspension.
And if I'm not mistaking the camcorder also comes with a printed plate of a tape. Another piece that saw hours of play use.
Unsurprisingly, my son has a massive preference for using the suspension wheels in his own creations. :) So it's a good thing think I have 2 sets.
I'm amazed Lego doesn't use them more often.
Took me 29 years to get my hands on it, but I'm not regretting it!
I always loved this set, but never managed to get one. This is the only Town set from 1990 I don't have yet, besides exclusives. I must fix this!

@AustinPowers, the "Joy" print on the doors is the first thing that I see when I look at this set! I was reading through the comments wondering if anyone else noticed the "joy" zebra print : ) It is a Joyful set indeed, so many great pieces, fun to play with, and wonderful memories. It's one of my fondest childhood sets, which I got maybe a year before my dark ages. I think I'll dig out and dust off that instruction manual and start rebuilding this weekend, kids and "honey do" tasks permitting lol.
I always wanted that monkey.
