Today's random set is 6066 Camouflaged Outpost, released in 1987. It's one of 5 Castle sets produced that year. It contains 211 pieces and 6 minifigs, and its retail price was US$23.
It's owned by 4214 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Easily one of my favorite sets of all time. I still even have the box!
Ah, nostalgia! This set and 6054 were the only two sets of the Forestmen I collected, but they offered countless hours of playtime. In my childlike imagination and with my Belgian upbringing they formed a Robin Hood type outlaw faction between the Lion Knights as the 'good' Klauwaards (Flemish fighters) and the Falcon knights as the 'evil' Leliaards (French Empire). My excuses to the French; my world view has since gotten a bit more subtle :-)
Classic set. One of the best of all time, considering the number of pieces and cost.
So much play-value. Gosh, I wish I owned this one.

This was my very first set! I had plenty of bricks, but had never had an actual playset, with instructions, etc. I must have played with this thing for so many hours, and assembled/reassembled a couple dozen times! Thanks for featuring this one; it really brought back some fond memories.
One of the greats. My brother had this set and would never let me touch it! He hid all of the gold coins we managed to collect inside it was like a cave of mystery treasure! I still have it proudly on display in my collection (he lets me play with it now :)
Easily one of my favorite sets as a child. I wish I hadn't lost the feathers though.

As others have said, this brings back so many great memories from my childhood. Definitely one of my favourites as a kid.
I have great memories in 80's with Lego, and this site helps me remember them everyday. I have one classic castle set but it's always a pleasure to see the others come up here.
A great start of a Castle subtheme. I really hope that we will see a new Castle theme in the future.
I was 15 at the time, and if I already had started to come into my dark ages, a part of me was still a kid and, as I had played hours and hours with my castles and knights, I could still look at such a beautiful set and imagine what I could do with it. I have to say to the truth that I had still a big big part of me who dreamed of buying it!
Such a legend.

4215. Realised I hadn't marked it as 'owned' (though also missing the black feather...) Brilliant set, lovely sub theme. Bring back forestmen!
I’m from Hungary and in the 80’s my parents had money to buy only the smallest sets. We have relatives in the US and l one day my grandma’s sister brought this set to me as a gift. It was my biggest set as a child and simply loved it, played with it so many times.
I kept it well in my dark ages but it got lost around my divorce. Last year l saw my ex wife’s cute son playing with one if the forestmen, few months after she passed away... many stories with one set...
One of the occasional gems of castle theme! So many minifigs to play with! Forestmen + Wolfies + Falcons (since I was low on numbers in all three factions) raiding the dragon knights with impunity!
Ah! I just rebuilt this one last year ( along with all my old castle,town,space and pirate sets) This one along with my blacktron base is easily one of my favorite sets I own! The only thing it needed was a peasant or knight to shake down!
I don't see an outpost, just some bandits playing on a rock.

The Forestmen subtheme really was special. Just 211 pieces and a generous 6 minifigs here in a superbly designed set that's ideal for imaginative play.
I believe this is the first set I ever owned. I know I had it in 1989, before the Pirates sets had released. It was so early that I don't remember getting it – I must have been about five years old. It still holds a solid place in my Castle collection, although it's been in storage for many years with the vast majority of my LEGO. Still, I loved this set. It was a great way to get a small army of Forestmen (or Robin Hoods, as we all called them).

I really dont know why there is any argument against sets like this returning. Why can we not have a new take on sets like this with new pieces, detail and better minifigures. They dont have to be re-releases of Classic sets, just the general idea of them. I personally would most like another realistic to mostly realistic medieval theme eg Kingdoms although I would completely understand and be fine with a more fantasy based take.
I personally think the 'kids arent interested thesedays' argument doesnt have any substance, do people seriously believe that when a child is born they think "Ok so Im from Generation (insert letter) so Im going to like and dislike these things"
Its what children are EXPOSED TO and ENCOURAGED WITH, i.e instead of treating Classic themes as something only current adults liked as children, as parents one should ENCOURAGE (not force of course) children to have an interest in history especially (and space) instead of thinking that children should be on phones and tablets every minute of every day and accept it as normal because 'its the technological generation'
Of course, not all kids are going to like the Classic themes (although I must strongly emphasise I mean modern versions of them, no one is saying Lego should re-release Yellow Castle-like sets) but there are plenty of children who would if they were EXPOSED to them and ENCOURAGED when they are exposed to them. Kids dont NEED fantasy and/or technology in EVERYTHING they do.
Sure, some things like Wild West may have had their time, but I think sets like this, certainly, have just a large chance of a market as any Hidden Side, or Legends of Chima, or Ninjago theme would, IF SETS LIKE THIS WERE ACTUALLY GIVEN A CHANCE.
I like this a lots and agree with the above - a modern version of this would be splendid!
I wanted this set so bad when I was a kid but I never got it then. Three years ago I got this from a friend in his childhood Lego box and after building it it never left my display shelf. It is easily in my all time top 5 of Lego sets. As most of you have already said- it's just a perfect set in every aspect.
One question about this set I've always had, even in my younger days, was why the "tree" growing from the rocks was black and not brown. I could understand the argument that brown was not available at that time if there were not a brown house standing right there.
One of my all time favorite sets as well :) So many hours of play spent w/this set... along w/a couple of other Forestmen sets I had. They were indeed the righteous Robin Hood faction, taking treasure from the rich Lion and Black Falcon Knights and giving back to the peasants... and they drank a lot (as I knew people who drank too much "grown up drinks" acted clumsy and silly). My Forestmen were a merry crew of misfits! Good times, thanks yet again for the memories Brickset!
I still have this set! My parents got it for my birthday when I was a teenager. One of favorite sets.
@jeffrey Brown was not available for all of those parts at the time. I believe they may have only had the horse, chests, 2x1 bricks and plates, and a very few other pieces. Brown was quite rare.
@Brickchap I totally agree. I've been buying and selling used lego over the past year and recently got https://brickset.com/sets/6542-1/Launch-Load-Seaport in a bulk purchase. I let my 5 and 6 year old build it and I asked them if they liked the new sets or old sets better. Without hesitation they said the older sets.
An almost perfect set. The only parts missing were Forestmen shields. The kid next door had Forestmen's Hideout and I always tried to nick the shilds whenever I was over.
I don't know anybody who isn't in love with this set. Lego seriously needs to just reissue or update it with a modern interpretation. There couldn't be a more adored Castle classic.

This is one of my childhood favorites. I loved the 360 build, the tree, the crazy angles, all the different play features (hidden doors, hinged interior access), even the alternate builds! And the forestmen faction was a great third wheel. A horse with a fair amount of figures, just a wonderful counterbalance for the forestmen headquarters against the more regal castles of the era.
It felt like some of the later Forestmen sets tried to replicate some of what made this set work, to mixed results. I think Pirates never quite captured this magic due to the (over)use of molded or colored baseplates, that limited some of the functional abilities.
My very favorite set from childhood. In 2017, I repurchased the parts I had lost years ago and rebuilt it. The Camouflaged Outpost now has a permanent place on my shelf!
Maybe the greatest LEGO set ever made and still my favorite from childhood. I remember adding the upper part of the tree from 6077 to the top of this set's tree for an additional play level :)
I am pretty sure that TLG from time to time tests this kind of themes from the past in focus groups.
And apparently, they fail.
For a theme to have success with kids it has to CONNECT in some way - and these classic themes offers next to nothing for kids of today to connect with - Robin Hood? What is that?

This was the one that brought me out of my very short lived dark age. I was 15 then(47 now) and used my own money. Been building (and buying) ever since lol
How weird, my grandad gave me this set just last weekend, granted it had been opened and most pieces were missing or replaced by random pieces not meant to be in the set
This set reminds me of my father who brought it home one day for me. I don't think there was any sort of occasion for him to do so. Sadly, I don't have this set any more, but I might hunt it down some day.
