This and the Robo Raptor were my fave robot Space vehicles growing up. My friends had ones I didn’t so I had their Lego to look forward to.

I loved this theme as a kid (I still do). Say what you will, but still my golden era for LEGO.

This looks like a delightful predecessor to the Rock Raiders' Granite Grinder!

Can’t quite see from the pictures, does it actually have a shuffling walking motion?

Other set names like Spectral Starguider or Allied Avenger are also fantastic.

I got this from a friend on my birthday as a kid because he got the same one for his birthday, and I commented on how cool it was. Agreed that the walking system was pretty ingenious for it’s time.

This one is sitting on a shelf in my son’s room. We were gifted a big box of Lego from a family friend a while back. It had this and a couple of other blacktron sets in. Plus others from that era. Most had instructions so we spent a few days travelling back in time reassembling them!
Most haven’t been taken apart again since...

Yup I had that one too. But it's too scattered away to say I still own it :)

I have to say, I like Blacktron I better.

The not-so-black Blacktron. :/ My apologies to those that loved it but I will never understand why Lego changed Blacktron from the awesome actually all-black figs in Blacktron I (not to mention the black and yellow color scheme in the sets) to the not nearly so awesome Blacktron II. Too much white and neon. They should have gone with a different faction name. I lost interest and I don't think I ever got any. This one was a similar idea to Alienator, but again, not nearly as cool.

I get some people's opinion of Blacktron 1 being superior to Blacktron 2. However, not everyone was able to partake in the awesome Blacktron 1 so didn't have those sets to compare to. I got into Lego starting around 1989, and by then Blacktron 1 was mostly done. The only set I got was the Meteor Monitor released in 1990 with the 4 theme value pack set. So without having those to compare to, Blacktron 2 seemed awesome to me as a kid. I loved the octagonal interchangeable cockpits, the neon pieces, and the interesting designs.

Blacktron II was great--yes, Blacktron I was better, but it doesn't make Blacktron II not great! The use of fluorescent parts, and the slick bubble canopies on several of their ships. I had this one as a kid, and one of my all-time favorites was X-Wing-esque 6887 Allied Avenger. I remember mounting probably a dozen missiles onto the wings of that thing...

It's interesting that both Blacktron sub-themes each had a 'mech'-like vehicle that both used the same type of walking mechanism (even using more or less the exact same pieces).

A slightly modified version later appeared in Robo Force and Rock Raiders.

This is a good set. It was one of my earliest, pieced together from a garage sale haul in 1994. I would often have it go on patrol with my other Blacktron: Future Generation sets Grid Trekkor and Tri-Wheeled Tyrax. The pilots formed a great camaraderie, although all they had to watch out for was Space Police (I had also pieced together a Solar Snooper from a later garage sale haul)!

The set looks kooky, but I couldn't help but be enamored by it. That theme holds strong memories for me, and I have almost the complete collection of Blacktron: Future Generation sets. I am only missing Alpha Centauri Outpost, but even as a child, I could see how empty and useless-looking it was aside from the ship, and Aerial Intruder was a far better flagship that that thing. One day I will have to repurpose the Message-Intercept Base I got instead for Blacktron: FG!

God I love the Blacktron 2 sets. This is one of the few I need for my collection.
