By in Canada,

First Star Wars set I bought in 99. This licensing was such an exciting development back then!

Hello there

By in United States,

Still the only landspeeder for minifigs that gets the size right! All the others are land yachts, but in-universe it's more like a tiny little two-seater sports car that's so old and beat-up Luke got it for cheap.

I'm sure I got this set during the draggulch period of late 2000/early 2001 when I found a crumpled-up box at a closeout store for like a dollar or two. The set inside was intact, and it was cool to have old Obi-Wan and Tatooine Luke finally in my collection. I guess I wasn't too accepting of its simplicity because one of the main reasons I got the 2003 Mos Eisley Cantina set was to have a newer, more accurate landspeeder.

By in Brazil,

I had this! I remember having fun rebuilding into the alternative model from the back of the package. The same with first Desert Skiff ever.

The engines are a nice piece. More sets could do with them.

I think it's interesting that all the Landspeeders Lego has made (beside this one) are almost the exact same design. Look at 4501, released in 2004, and compare it with 75173, released 13 years later. Pretty much the only thing that has changed are the engines, the tiles, and the windshield. The color scheme is very different, but the overall silhouette is basically the same.

As far as size goes, according to Wookiepedia it's supposed to be 3.4 meters, so at this scale about 2 minifigures long, or 11 studs. That makes this version about 4 studs too long, but I imagine it would look stubby if it was any shorter. Maybe the reason the proportions look right is because minifigures are inherently too wide.

Wow! A LEGO SW classic! I remember buying this one, and the excitement for officially licensed SW sets. Didn't care for the color, but the size is ok.

By in Turkey,

I got this on almost release day. Then a year later I got another as a gift. I keep one built and the other went to parts bin. So I have couple of Luke and Obi-Wan figures on the loose :)

Yay! A classic on Lego Star Wars' anniversary! This set was so cool, because it was one of the the first Star Wars sets!

Wow, a true classic and so exciting when the Star Wars range was so new and we just didn’t know what was coming next. Good times!

Hello. What have we here?

By in Netherlands,

My only Star Wars set.

A good one too, back in the day those parts weren't too common.

This is unofficially my first LEGO Star Wars set if not my first LEGO Set. I really can't remember, but this was one of my favorites.
Today, lots of things are detailed, minifigures are covered in prints, and parts can be molded with multiple colors, but back in 1999, my 5 year old mind was blown away by the lightsaber hilt that was chrome and gray right out of the packaging. I thought it was so cool that parts of it were shiny and other parts weren't, and it wasn't in a completely random way, which helped it look even cooler. I would later realize that I had received a defective part because every hilt I got since was perfectly chromed. Makes me love it even more now. Nobody will ever have that exact same lightsaber hilt. That one's mine, and it holds special significance in my eye.

By in Sweden,

First set to use jumpers to seat two minifigs side by side in a six wide build? :)

I would have loved to get this set, back in the day. Somehow, I never did... and nowadays I can't help but feel it looks just a little bit lacking somehow, though I can't place my finger on exactly what about it makes me think that.

Still a very neat little set, though! I kinda miss being able to get sets that were this effective for such a cheap price!

I'll take this opportunity to note that 75173 had great figures and price point, but was twice as long as it should have been. The footprint of that speeder is bigger than the Cantina it is parked outside. I think a micro fighter Landspeeder would be our best bet at something properly scaled for the figures and other sets (though would likely only seat one).

By in Portugal,

I recently got hold of this one, even though it's not complete, in a bulk buy.
I'm still trying to complete it. It's very simple, but it does have its charm, especially if you consider when it was released.
I haven't decided if I'll keep it or not.

I have this set. It was the last set I got before my dark ages. It’s still in mint condition too (parts, box, instructions etc.)

By in Venezuela,

This was the first (and pretty much only) set I fully recreated in Stud.io a good bunch of time ago. It's nice.
