By in Australia,

Wow, so, Lego's love of over-sized motorcycles (sort of) can be traced *waaaay* back to '91.

@Zordboy:
Never thought of it that way. Sad but true...

Other thing to note is that this set appeared in two different versions: The original one shown on the image here, and a later one that had a slightly reinforced chassis structure.

The really interesting thing here is that like all 1991 sets, this one was available as both a '91 yellow boxed version simply labelled 'LEGO' with a broad Blacktron logo afterwards and a '92 black boxed 'LEGO System' version with a Blacktron Logo in the upper right corner.

So were there in total 4 different versions of this set? Or can the box give a hint at the model version, making it still only 2 variants? Or were there 3 versions with the later model version being available in both box versions but the original one not?

Quite an oddity xD

By in United States,

Get 6851, 6878 and 6887 and you could get the instructions for the 6861 super model giant Blacktron 2 vehicle.
I recently found this 6861 instruction book in a lot of instructions books, now I just need to get these sets, or at least the parts together to make the behemoth

A nice little Space buggy with a loveably cheesy name. Gotta love retro Space!

Finally, an official LEGO set I look at and think "yeah, I could've designed that."

One of my first sets! It looks kind of funny, but I had tons of fun driving this around as a kid. To this day I still wonder what a tyrax is though.

^ It's a rare rock-dwelling rodent on Alpha Centauri Bb that's known for its remarkable abilities to steal food from the apex predators in its ecosystem and escape without harm, hence its adoption by the Blacktron gang as a mascot.

No, really, I have no idea.

Gotta love Blacktron--even if they did lose the slick black visors the second time around.

How can you not love the smiley space bad guys.

This set is so cute.

It's amazing how simple sets used to be.... This could have been made by a child from spare parts. This would be a 90 part set now.

By in Poland,

I remember when I got this set as a gift from my mother. At first I was in love mainly because of the green translucent parts. But very quickly I started to hate this set. The three wheels meant I was always missing one wheel to build proper big space vehicle. Just one of these green windshields made it hard to build any substantial cockpit. My Lego collection was very small back then and I was so disappointed by how little useful pieces I got from this set.

This set always reminds me of those water trikes out at the lake

By in Netherlands,

I only had the smallest of the Blacktron 2 sets (6812), but still am super nostalgic to that era of space (Classic all the way up to Insectoids).

Nexo Knights theme used this style of wheels in a lot of their vehicles , sizes 22mm and 54mm diameter.

This set uses 35mm wheels that haven't been made since 2001, Nexo Knights instead used a new style of 37mm wheels instead.
