Pretty decent set. A wide array of minifigures, a couple being the first iterations, the first play set Star Destroyer (the other versions were the Ultimate Collector's Edition and the Mini), and it was the first in the line of big wedges that could open up to a fair amount of play features inside. Not too bad. The biggest downfall was the two plate think base, which is a little fragile. Was a pretty great Christmas in 2006. I remember building it on the floor, kind of like everything else at that time. Maybe that's why the base was fragile; the carpet squished unevenly. Still, two plates, not the best. It did hold up better when I took it apart and rebuilt it on a table, though.

my brother got this set for Christmas once and it was awesome! We loved the escape pod and the vader chamber and i liked the bridge. A bit too heavy on plate usage though. Also i believe this is the set that the star destroyer in lego star wars was based on.

Wow. Of all of the random sets of the day, this one probably has the most owners on Brickset.

Never owned this set myself, but I find it quite interesting that the official set images show alternate models of a Lambda-ish shuttle and some sort of round ship thing. I don't see many people talking about that part of the set, or if those alt models were only images.

Just picked this up off ebay for around 70 bucks shipped, only missing 5 or so small parts. Pretty good set.

The "shuttle" is a T-16 Skyhopper. The other ship is Dash Rendar's, the Outrider. Odd choices IMO for alt-builds, but hey. Star Wars sets don't generally get alternate models or instructions.

@Saffroth those alternate models are actually the T-16 Skyhopper (AKA Luke's airspeeder he used on Tatooine pre-Episode IV) and a YT-2400 Light Freighter (most famously used in Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire book/video game by Dash Rendar as his ship "The Outrider").

Anyway I do have this set. It's a very cool one, especially for its time. It's got great size for its price point, and none of the minifig-designed Star Destroyers since then have matched it in size. Tons of real estate inside the ship as well that you really don't see very often nowadays. Plenty of good play features too. The main downsides are the oversized bridge area, the white beams used along the edges that stick out too much, and the general instability of the bottom since it lacks very much support. Whenever I pick it up I'll frequently pop loose a few panels on the bottom simply by resting my hands underneath it.

This is probably the best Star Destroyer playset LEGO have done. Despite its age it’s superior to the recent First Order version, in my opinion.

Despite the overall size, the designer managed to squeeze in a workable bridge! I always respected that.

I have always really liked this set and it has aged well.

I thought I had misread the price to piece ratio! It was a steal even at full RRP, you can't say that about many Star Wars sets nowadays.

Still looks good today, but I have modified mine. Covered the white technic beams and removed the other small parts in white that show. Built a new bridge (probably still too big), and changed the canons for the new design on the newer models.

I have this great set and as others have said, its a great price per piece set none of the following Star Destroyers have been able to beat. I almost bought the 2014 one but it was $20 out of budget (same as the AT-AT) and basically was retired by the time I got the money.

This was a wonderful set, it was huge and packed with space to fill your with your storm trooper army, I still have it on my shelf today!

LEGO would sell more sets if they rolled back prices, added more minis... This is how it should be.

Still the best capital ship set. Looks good from the outside, and has plenty of space inside, unlike most other models of larger ships.

As for the alternate builds, it's from the tail end of when all sets (including Star Wars) had them on the back of the box. They were eventually discontinued because people (read: parents) kept calling customer service and demanding instructions. In most cases Lego couldn't provide them (because they didn't exist) and didn't want to anyway (because the builds weren't up to the same standards of design as the actual set).

I love that news has been so slow that this is the 3rd random set of the day to be featured just above the Hogwarts Express posted on the 7th. Of course I may be filtering some content, so YMMV.

@Rob42 I thought LEGO did release official (online) instructions for the YT-2400 "Outrider," which is one of my favorite Star Wars ships. Unfortunately the alt. build from this set is about as close as I think we'll ever get to an official set :( This original Minfigure scale version of the Star Destroyer is one that's been on my Wanted List for years. I got 75055 from 2014, which imo looks superior from the outside, but lacks much of the charm of this set. Looking forward to building 75190 from 2017. I talked my mom into getting it for my Christmas present since Walmart had it 50% off on clearance last weekend, now only 4 mo.'s and 3 weeks to wait to get building... maybe I can talk her into giving it to me early...

This is one of the best sets of LEGO star wars.
