Random set of the day: Castle

Today's random set is 375 Castle, released in 1978. It was the only Castle set released that year. It contains 767 pieces and 14 minifigs.
It's owned by 1735 Brickset members. If you want to add it to your collection you might find it for sale at BrickLink or eBay.

Even though I like later castles such as 6080 better, you have to agree this was a great start to the theme.
Just picked this one up last month in a monster find of 50+ classic sets with instructions for <$300. Fun build and looks great!

This was my one and only castle set, and all I needed (though I sure wanted more, including the tantalizing sets that were available only in Europe). My mom still has it, and recently I've been encouraging my kids to build bits of it every time we visit. The instructions remind me that today's manuals handhold builders like helicopter parents on overdrive. If rereleased now that instruction manual would be an encyclopedia.
I particularly remember building the horses. Brick built animals are still the best.
I imagine this is another one of those sets that could be built from scratch really easily.
Except for those corner slopey parts. I've never seen those in any other set.
This one must be for the old-timers. In my teens, I derided its primitive design, garish color, and otherwise non-conformance to the rest of the Castle theme. And while I still hold a rather low opinion of the set, I have gained a much, much greater appreciation for it and where it stands in the LEGO pantheon. It was truly groundbreaking, and opened a whole new world to LEGO fans. It is unfortunate how that fizzled out in recent years, but we can look back and say it all began with this one! My Royal Knights' Castle from 1995, nor the Black Knights' Castle from 1992, wouldn't exist without this set paving the way. Is it the greatest LEGO set of all time? Subjectively, no. But it just might be one of the most important!
I was born 18 years after this set came out and was one I was made aware of here. One of the most legendary sets, if I'm not mistaken.
I feel it is one of Lego's better castles, as it uses standard bricks, instead of big hollow pieces like today's castles are notorious for using. Heck, even the horses are brick built from standard pieces of the day.
Sure it looks silly being yellow (I've viewed it as just being "close enough" for tan in the designer's eyes), but Lego's reasoning was to prevent it from being used to build military vehicles.
As I entered high school in 1985, I traded my Star Wars collection (Hasbronaction figures and ships) for my brother’s Lego collection - this Castle and the little Castle sets from the same period (joust etc) and some space sets. The space sets have succumbed to parts for my City but the Castle (stickers and all) is built and sitting on a dresser.

This one, 6067, 6267 and 6276 are the pearls. Daniel K. was able to create sets that had and still have a "soul", which I'm unable to find in most of present sets.
My first castle. I can not describe what it has done to me the day it was offered to me. I was 6! And can't describe what it has represented and still represents. As everybody here on Brickset, lego is something quite indescribable, a true and deep passion. I can say it is thanks to this one that I am here today. I still have it, along with my two other castles it has followed me from my childhood to my home today. Set itself is almost complete, I have all the minifigs, just miss the instructions booklet - and the box.
I love this castle even since I was a kid and saw it in an ideas building book. I am also very content and happy that I got one a couple of years ago.
It is a classic. The horses that are brick buildt are so wonderfull constructed. Also 14 minifigures. Let that sink in a set with 14 minifigures.
It sits in my bookcase and besides it is the mini annivarsery version .

If Lego ever wants to make piles of money by re-releasing gold standard classic sets I would be happy to help them.
As some people have said, it is perhaps not the best LEGO castle, but it was the pioneer, so we must thank it because it was the start of other castles. It opened the Castle and Middle Age themes in LEGO, so, once again, thanks for it!!
The number of minifigs in this set is just mindbogglingly awesome. Especially when compared to the total number of pieces in this set. I think this might be a contender for the award "set with most minfigs per number of pieces".

When I look at the instruction pages, I really wonder and try to remember if it was difficult to build big sets as a child or not, because each step in the instruction processes a high number of parts at a time, not like today when sometimes a step is given for one or two little parts to add. But I do not remember having any problems with interpretation of the instructions nor building when I was 6, 7 or 8, at this era when instructions were so... Minimalist. Parts have changed, minifigs and sets have changed, but instructions booklets are in no way what they were 40 years ago.
Born in 1973 this was One of my first Sets. Still have it. And I still believe - afert many many many Sets since - that this is One of the Best LEGO Sets ever. Love it !
I got this for my 7th birthday. £25 from Woolworths! As built, the playability was very high, but it gave you 5 Base plates, lots of plates of the same colour, and virtually all basic brick sizes all in one colour. So you could make loads of mocs just from the one set. Mine is fully built at my parents for my kids to play with. Still an all time great.
I have my childhood set and I still love it. At one point I actually bought a bunch of yellow parts to expand the castle. I'll still do that some day.
Oh the notalgia! The wacky colors and huge minfiig roster make this classic stand out from the crowd. I love how often it pops up in LEGO lore, revealing it to a cannon part of the overall mythos and a *very* important location, suitible for it's classic nature.

Neat set; Ive had two copies of this set in the past. Though tedious to build (like most castle sets); the figures really make this set IMO.
Greatest castle set? I would say the 6085 Black Monarch's castle is actually the best castle set (followed closely by 6080), but that may just be me.
