Review: 40187 Flower Display

LEGO has commonly been known to create 'miscellaneous' sets for their online shop and Brand Stores that don't really fit with any specific category; they'd function for just a quick gift or even for holiday decoration. 40187 Flower Display is one such item, as it could function just as easily for a Valentine as it could for a wedding or bridal party for head-over-heels AFOLs!
I have been quite excited for this set, as we hardly ever see 'realistic' display pieces at this scale, and both flowers look like clever models as well as excellent sources of parts.
Box
The two models come in a small, rectangular box, which is perhaps one of the smallest box sizes I've ever seen - not much bigger than the daisy, and slightly shorter than the rose!
Of course, it makes sense as this set only weighs in at £4.99, or $5.99, for just 100 pieces. You wouldn't know it at first glance, if the details were missing as they normally are - since it's worth mentioning that the European box is the same as the US one, with piece count and tape seals intact. Unusual, indeed!
The Completed Model
The red rose, or tulip, is my least favorite of the two models, but only because of how simple it is.
I like the way the red slopes angle to capture the unique design - and the stem looks good too, as well as the leaf which uses a green claw. Two are included here, having only been in 10255 Assembly Square before. A white vase holds the flower, which works quite well for it, in my opinion.
The white daisy is my favorite of the flora included. Its construction starts with some round bricks for its red pot, with some elusive gold curved tiles for the border. These first appeared in 76072 Mighty Micros: Iron Man vs. Thanos, so are still relatively rare. A green stem not unlike the rose's sprouts out and ends at the petaled portion, which is marvelous.
I love how every other petal is arranged - right-side up and to the side, repeating. It's a little tedious, but well worth it.
The petals and stem, combined with the middle head area, really catches the eyes!
Verdict
This little set is absolutely fantastic. While I have greatly enjoyed the vignettes, cartoon figures and now BrickHeadz that have graced Seasonal sets, this is a remarkable departure from the norm. I hope to see more like it in the future.
Furthermore, the price-per-part ratio is commendable, and it is one of the cheapest non-polybag or non-CMF sets on the market right now. I see no reason not to recommend this set, no matter what your interest in LEGO is like.

I thought it was a tulip until I read this.
The red one does look more like a tulip to me. Well, except for the leaf. They should've made the bloom rounder.
Also originally thought it was a tulip... but no.. a rose.. apparently that's the flower of choice on Valentine's day and Mother's day..
Nice review and nice set. If I want to get picky, I'd say the "pot" for the sunflower looks a little small in relation to the plant and if that back robot hand piece connecting the leaf were only available in green, it'd look so much better.

This is an excellent small set to add to an order when you're just shy of the free-shipping limit. Have added it to my wishlist exactly for that purpose. :-)
These look really nice - but they are also great part packs - especially I like the fact that the white vase contains 8 of the recent corner snots, the red flower as some double height slopes and the white inverted bows on the daisy.... Will probably get some at the end of the month when the 60 yr set is available....
Really pretty. I love them. I am trying to experiment this year with building items with not many bricks. This might give me ideas.
It seems that there have been a couple of large scale flower sets in the past at various Legoland Parks. And this looks wonderful...whatever imaginary flowers they may be. I would much rather fill up my real flower vases with real LEGO flowers like this than the real cut flowers I am currently looking at, which are drooping after a week in a vase. And require lots of attention. If LEGO keeps this up, I may not have to buy many cut flowers in the future! And WHO can dislike rare NEW parts?
