By in New Zealand,

Damn this set is cool. I would have loved to own it. All the cool buildings and shops names, Like Wells Fargo, which was a real wild west business. It just looks awesome!

By in United States,

Things certainly are wild out west. There's these giants that pop up and rule the town like it's their plaything!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

And another set I liked when I was a kid, but I didn't have it.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Oh Wow! Doc Holiday!

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Who'd have thought the wild west was so colourful!

Gravatar
By in United States,

This set's a tad older, but today's RMotD wouldn't look too out of place here!

By in United States,

Interesting that the mounted figures are done differently from the one on 617, although I do think that 617's version looked much better, so I can see why the change was made.

By in Malaysia,

Purchasing STAMPs from the Pony Express office and slapping them on the side of the wagon...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Odd that they made three red horses, and one yellow one, but no white ones.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

It's a lovely set, but all I'm seeing is cowboy hats, trees, and those lovely green baseplates.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wild, wild West.

Ah, you gotta love those 70s bangs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I guess TLG's no-booze rule came out after 1975.

And the bottles on the side of the Snake Oil wagon look like how the parts would later appear.

Probably because white horses are called grey, which hadn't been developed yet? :')

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Very cool set. Would be fun to get an updated wild west town version for a wild west Doc (bttf)

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

Nice, I didn't know there was a western set before 1996. A big one too.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The horses have minifig (the minifigs of that time) legs!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The little details to make people on wagons look like they’re sitting is a cute touch

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Cool set! Though it would have been even better if it had included some Red Indians for a bit of conflict ;-)

Gravatar
By in France,

See, Lego are still as they used to be, so many stickers ;-P

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Western theme has been around since the 70s, yet it's been 27 years since the last Western set was released.

Though my only experience with this theme was 5702 Lego Chess game, I feel like I missed out a lot.

By in Australia,

What a cool set! I love all the real life references Doc Halliday (who was a dentist), snake oil, Wells Fargo, The Pony Express etc.

I'd love to see an Icons 18+ remake of this with proper minifigures, horses and obviously detailed buildings but just having all these different buildings/businesses in the one set to make a whole Western town.
Western is a theme I understand not returning as a full theme, but I dont see why we can't have one or two big Icons sets for adults.
Maybe something like this (also inspired by Gold City Junction) and Fort Legorado, and/or an American steam locomotive.

By in Netherlands,

Snake oil? Even then the graphic designers had a sense of humour!!

By in Netherlands,

Often the VSotW is some random matchbox car or a basic set I don't really know because those were a dime a dozen. But this... This one I know. Super memorable! It's one of the few Western sets from that time, and I think it's cool that one of th first headgear predating even the modern minifig was showcased well in ths set: the (old) cowboy hat!

And there's so much to this set. A shame about all the STAMPs though. I'd reckon that meant owners either had to keep it built forever or get rid of what made it what it was.
I'm so thankful we don't have STAMPs anymore these days!

Because the image is quite crowded, here's a better overview of the contents:

In this image you can see that it came with a cardboard foldable play mat: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/elsAAOSwS1hkw5LG/s-l1200.webp

I think this was one of my first ‘big sets’. I probably got it for a birthday or for Christmas.

I had forgotten about the cardboard play mat though!

By in United States,

This set has the bones of a phenomenal expansion pack to Gold City Junction: it's ALMOST the right scale and those stickers (heck, even the colour scheme) would fit right in. It would be fun to have this set and expand it and update the parts a little (at least to a 90s levels).

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Took a while to convert all those stickers into their LDraw counterparts. It was worth every minute of effort. One of my first sets! A LEGEND!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Unarmed minifigures don’t do great gunfights :-)

I didn't even notice that before I saw your comment! That's pretty cool.

At least modern stickers are only applied to one piece at a time.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So...many...cowboy...hats...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

This set has the female pigtails hairpiece in white, which I believe only came in one other set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Got jumpscared by Wells Fargo...

Gravatar
By in Spain,

8 Buildings and 2 vehicles with only 602 pieces

Today this would be a 5k pieces and 500€ set

Maybe we should come back to do more with less (are all the nowadays details, snots and 1x1 pieces really necessary?)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sold one of these in really good condition not too long ago. Nice set.

And the sideburns. But at first, I thought you wrote “bangers,” and I was like “no, WWW is from 1999….”

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I would buy this set, were it made today.

Chops, baby!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have this one, complete with all of the packaging. It is a really fun set!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have this one - it was/is a really cool set - the stickers are on a piece of paper (some in bits) and I don't have the box - but the cardboard base is in an OK state!! With the proto-minifigs....
