Wonder if LEGO would pull a “Boba Fett’s Starship” with this set if it were to be remade.

It's a tragedy that LEGO never made a proper EU Z-95. I've never cared much for the TCW re-design.

I love that Pong Krell minifigure. It really brings back old memories of those Star Wars Clone Wars sets.

By in United States,

Kinda weird that they went to the trouble of making that head, and never produced a Dexter Jettster minifig.

Oooh, the Z-95 headhunter! Quite an underrated set and ship. Lego needs to re-make this set. And it includes Pong Krell. He was a bad-ass villain! too bad he didn't stick around too long before Dogma shot him dead!

This was my first LEGO Star Wars set, bought about 10 years ago in a bulk buy!
I love the sleek, angular look of this ship!
Pity mine didn’t come with Pong Krell.

As a fan of the X-WING VS. TIE FIGHTER video game series, I always did like the ol’ Z95.

So your telling me that someone will buy my pong krell minifig whom I don't really care about for $40+?!?!?!?!?

When did his value skyrocket?

*edit*
When did this set get so expensive?!?!

That’s the aftermarket for you. Ten years and exclusivity will do wonders for a minifigure’s value. It’s kind of disgusting if you ask me.

Did headhunters like this even feature in the Umbara arc that was the only time we saw mister Krell here? I remember those nifty looking Umbaran fighters that could still use a set, not sure these popped up. I know this isn’t the only time Lego have crammed disjointed figs and sets together, just seems weird considering there -is- an Umbaran tank set he could have been dropped in

Gravatar

While I do regret not getting this set, I just couldn't justify that price at the time. I didn't care if there were new molds for the pilot's helmet or for Pong Krell, it shouldn't have been $15 overpriced, but now there's really no way I'll be getting it. That aftermarket will make anyone want a time machine. Makes you cringe how frugal you were to let $15 make a set like this slip by when you're so willing to shill out so much more for a modern set because $15 overpriced is sometimes considered good.

I want to say that there are a few shots of them in the space battle, but I definitely know they were featured in the following Slaver Arc, specifically the third episode on Kadavo. That's when you really get a good look at them.

Maybe they do cameo a bit in the initial space battle; I just remember the 501st’s -lack- of air support being a fairly major plot point in that arc so it just seems funny to connect it with a starfighter like this

Not the first or the last time Lego Star Wars has gotten “creative” with character placement in sets. Like the Sith Infiltrator sets that include characters besides Darth Maul despite Maul being the only person who was ever near it on screen. Or that Rebels AT-TE that included the Fifth Brother, who was technically in the same episode as it but never on the same planet or ship, never mind on screen.

@Pekingduckman the Jedi were nearing the end of a considerable period of decline, and were making more than a few questionable decisions. Though to be fair, Kell probably wasn’t always as terrible as he eventually became. This guy did come out of the same order that produced the likes of Count Dooku, Darth Vader, and Baylan Skoll after all.

It still bugs me that the Seventh Sister never even got a Minifigure. Are you kidding me? The Fifth Brother gets put in that set, which is very random to do, but then you don't even have a complementary set around that time to do the same with the Seventh Sister? She's why better than the Fifth Brother, and that dork has two minifigs now! Justice for the Seventh Sister! Perfect set to include her in would have been 75158 even if you swapped out Kallus. Another opportunity wasted, kind of like how we never got any Season 3 and 4 Rebels sets save for 75170 which thankfully included Thrawn. I'm not sure if it's because we had movies coming out that Rebels sets just weren't developed or if the Rebels sets just weren't selling.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but "Boba Fett's Starship" makes sense from a completely different reason, than you might think.
It's not better for business, because someone might be offended by the originial name. It's better for business, because a lot of parents aren't that deep into Star Wars lore (the name "Slave I" was never mentioned in any movie whatsoever). When choosing Lego to buy as a present, the new name is supposed to make them go: "ah Boba Fett, my kid likes that guy, let's buy this", instead of: "what is this weird looking contraption, isn't there an X-Wing I can buy, I recognize that"

Besides, going with "Pong Krell's Starfighter" or something like this, would miss the point entirely, because:
1: Pong Krell isn't nearly popular enough to warrant that treatment.
2: It's not his Starship, it's clearly the clone pilot's
3: Z-95 Headhunters were widely used by mercenaries, militaries and militias alike all over the galaxy
4: Maybe they would go with something like Clone Starfighter or sth, but that would kinda make sense from the point I made above

My experience with Star Wars. I was baffled how much the sets I was gifted in 2000 to 2002 turned out to cost. Ever since when it was time for me to spend some money it was either on something unlicensed, a discounted licensed thing (too rare), or a comparatively dinky Star Wars thing, so I just chose the option where value isn't so dependant on the IP's recognizability. Since the early 2000s I only got a handful of tiny Star Wars sets since. Weirdly enough I was more into the early HP sets. I guess that was my exception because at least it wasn't 99% vehicles.

Of course, now sets like this are even higher up in price, so I just ignore Star Wars releases as not an option for me. I'm not going to participate in that.

By in United States,

Hey, a set I--almost--own. I got it used in a garage sale lot a few years ago: thr fighter is complete, but I only have the clone pilot of the figs.

The fighter always feels quite fragile to me and a bit oversized (though what Clone vehicle isn't...).

I heartily concur!

I can get not giving Eighth Brother a fig, even if it disappoints me, given how briefly he appeared in Rebels. But not giving Seventh Sister one was definitely a miss. And there were certainly other Rebels characters and concepts that would have made for fun sets.

Could really go for some more Inquisitor figures in general.

I think you could try taking the torso from Reva, the head from Barriss Offee, and the helmet from a First Order shuttle pilot, and you'd have a somewhat decent Seventh Sister.
But LEGO really needs to make her officially. Maybe the Malachor Sith Temple in the style of 75365?

It’s been a while since I played, but wasn’t it just an X-Wing with less guns and no shields? I’d rather fly the Y-Wing.

@SearchlightRG:
Especially because there’s little chance of them doing Amidala’s starship, it makes sense for them to pair this ship up with any of the minifigs who went into town, particularly Qui-Gon. They may not have ever been near this ship, but Maul did ride the Sithscooter right up to Qui-Gon in that scene.

There’s no slavery mention so I’m sure it’s okay. A headhunter isn’t much worse than a bounty hunter or assassin.

See, that’s funny, because my hands-down favorite mission of all time was flying a Y-Wing around and scanning containers to see what the contents were. Once you get that out of the way a Star Destroyer shows up and starts belching out 72 TIE Interceptors, six at a time. And because you’re all alone in a Y-Wing, you get to shoot _them all_. So fun.

While I don’t know the exact boundaries of TLG’s sensitivities, the term “headhunter” is commonly associated with colonial depictions of indigenous peoples, and something that I can see major toy companies steering well clear of in 2024.

On the contrary, I prefer this design, as the EU headhunter looks more like a slightly altered X-wing, whereas this looks more like its own thing (though admittedly similar to other clone ships like the ARC-170s).

Regardless, this was quite a good set at the time, and at 40 euros I thought it was reasonably priced even at its official RRP.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Obviously those 2 clones are looking to recruit (headhunt) that alien for special skill of having 4 arms, surely not to hunt his actual head.

501st recruitment agents, doing their jobs, they gotta go out in the field for special abilities, as the rest of them are just clones, angry clones.

Oh, I played through TIE Fighter, too, and XvTIE, but you have to understand something. This Y-Wing mission took a few hours to complete (by my standards, that is), and no other combat mission pushed you as hard.
