A Lego set about the nether region?

By in United States,

Seems kind of appropriate, since LUGBulk season is upon us again...

By in New Zealand,

One of four sets that were the first in the minecraft theme!

I have all 4 of these micro worlds. They were pretty cool and I liked that they made cube shaped boxes for them. They all were made up of 4 sections which were connected together with technic axles, but this was the only one where only three and not all four technic axles were used , so if you picked it up one side would sag down quite a bit. Other than that this one was pretty cool and I liked the ghasts.

What? There’s was only three of these made. Not four.

The first one was an ideas (Cuusoo) set.

Minecraft! My favorite (though I don't own this one, got into Legos well after this was released. Shame, it's a pretty cool set).

I've never been to the Netherlands, but it surely doesn't look like this, does it?

Yes, when Captain Hook ruled.

By in Australia,

I wish they'd kept making these, they're delightful. Just one new biome a year would keep me happy!

By in United States,

I've been waiting for the day when an Ideas or Cuusoo set would be RSotD, This is not that day, but we were so close!

Yeah, the guy who created Minecraft submitted a project, threw it out there on social media, got voted up to 10k in like a day and a half (something ridiculously short, at least), and they turned that into the first Cuusoo set available outside of Japan. Since they already had the IP owner on board from Day 0, they worked out a license, and followed that up with three more sets. _HOWEVER_, because Cuusoo/Ideas is not about themes, once the first set came out, the rest had to be produced under an independent theme instead of overtly piggybacking on the first.

And then they said, "Screw this, make minifigs."

Who cares if we're giving up sunlight?
Glowstone's all we need to keep things bright!
Down here in the Nether,
We love it in the Nether,
You'll love it iii-iii-iii-iii-in the Nether!

Don’t know much about Minecraft and the lore behind the setting of this set, but like the colour scheme very much!

How much do LUGgers save on parts? (asking for a friend)

By in United States,

You know, when I see Star Wars sets, it makes me excited because I get to talk about something I love.
Then there's the other stuff I poke fun at for the meme.
And then there's sets where you see it's been 10 years, and you distinctly remember seeing them as they came out, and it just makes you feel old...

By in Netherlands,

It's good to be reminded of the humble beginnings of the Minecraft theme that has roots in Cuusoo but only later started as a minifig theme in 2015.

... which is 9 years old. WHY ARE SO MANY CURRENT THEMES NEARLY OR OVER 10 YEARS OLD!?

When you cycle through the countryside at night and the cloudy sky is extremely illuminated a fiery yellow from the light polution emitted by the complexes of greenhouses in places like Moerkapelle, and when the farmland has recently been plowed bare...
It still looks nothing like this. Not nearly enough water.
But it sure does look spooky as well. It reminds me more of Mordor, really.

I am not allowed to say anything about our hell portal in Monster either, so that's not a thing that could be likened to this set either.

to summarize, The Nether is one of a number of alternate dimensions that you can access via specific portals. for a Nether portal, you need Obsidian blocks which can only be mined with a Diamond Pickaxe, which is not easy to come by. now, i should mention The Nether is a remarkably dangerous place, but the rewards make a trip absolutely worth it! for example, you can only find Blazes in The Nether. you see, when you defeat a Blaze, it might drop a Blaze Rod, which you need to make a Brewing Stand, which is required for Potion brewing. any questions?"

Thanks, that was enough :-) Very kind of you!

Argh, it's turning in to a Bionicle RSotD thread ... just shorter and interesting.

By in Canada,

I was going to write a little story about the role Minecraft has had in our family but, then I thought, nah, too long, nether mind.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Obviously this is sea or sky, because it surely isn't The Netherlands

I suppose it makes sense, as it's mainly floating landmasses above a giant sea of lava.

What's more interesting however, this is a 2013 set, long before Minecraft updated the biome with Piglin Bastions or Basalt, and those black pieces are even more relevant now imo. (while I know it originally is meant to represent a Nether Fortress instead)

Let's say it does.

By in United States,

I had all four of these back in the day. At one point they got knocked off the shelf and I didn't bother putting them back together, just shoved all the pieces back in their box and called it a day.

That's actually pretty impressive that LEGO has so many themes that have ran that long now.

Yes. All of that?

@StyleCounselor:
Heh, pricing is the one aspect of LUGBulk that we’re not allowed to divulge. It can vary a lot, though. I have seen parts that you could buy cheaper direct than we could order through LUGBulk, and I’ve seen parts that members were falling over themselves to order because they were such a deal.

@TeriXeri:
Maybe not the Netherlands _now_, but can you say for sure that it could never happen? Could be a hypothetical. The Whether Nether.

Gravatar
By in United States,

To expand upon the lore provided by @NotProfessorWhymzi -- Minecraft is a sandbox game and the landscape is divided into "biomes" populated with distinctive "structures" and "mobs" (the basis for many of the theme's sets, such as the biome in 21129 "The Mushroom Island" or the hostile mob in 21126 "The Wither"). There are three "dimensions" which are separate procedurally-generated infinite maps. The player travels between "the overworld" and "the Nether" via "Nether portals" (the black and trans-purple object in the set). The Nether is a cavern, commonly with a floor of dark-red "netherrack" (often aflame), with seas and vertical falls of lava. The vegetation is red or teal and consists mostly giant mushrooms (not depicted in this set, but see 21255).

By in United States,

The only Micro World I have and the first LEGO Minecraft set I got. I couldn’t access the Nether in Pocket Edition at this point but I still got the set anyways. The gold knives are particularly interesting, wish I didn’t lose one of them.

I figured. I supposed you weren't allowed to disclose specifics, and wasn't looking for such. I was just interested in your generalizations.

From what I understand, we can talk about a lot of the specifics, but two forbidden things are we can't give specifics on pricing, and we can't sell anything we obtain through the program. That last one can get you in a lot of trouble. I know that, before 10179 retired, at least one club put the light-bley ship rigging on LUGBulk, and by the time the new version released, those were selling for over $100 _each_. @Huw casually ordered original goats, and then never even got them out until he reviewed the Bonsai, by which point his tiny purchase would have been worth roughly $1000. I got 200 of the Alien Conquest clingers (and this year I plan to buy a metric crapton of the pearlple crystals from City Space). So, there's definitely a lot of potential for abuse, depending on the picks you make. One of the things my LUG has on pretty much every order is baseplates. Even standard colors (green, blue) get a lot of action just because people want baseplates for MOCs, regardless of color. But thanks to the Modulars, we've also been able to order red, light-bley, dark-bley, reddish-brown, and last year dark-blue baseplates. I wish I'd bought more red, but I got 42 dark-blues last year.
