An atypical New Year's ball, but I'm sure it'll drop just fine.
Having dropped mine a few months ago, I can tell you it makes an absolutely epic mess when dropped, and fixing it is a worthy New Years resolution
This had to be intentional. Love this set.
Starting the New Year with a bang… from Alderaan's destruction!
(Yes, wrong Death Star, no, I don't care)
This set was one of my best deals ever. I bought an entire tub of SW sets with this in it for less than the cost of this alone. It has some yellowed pieces, but I think it's kind of neat that way because it makes it look even more under construction. Those parts represent raw, unprimed metals in early phases of construction, I tell myself. Yeah.
Also, Happy New Year!
"Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational battle station"
Anyway, a pretty deadly and big start to the new year. And it could definitely do with a remake. especially for how iconic it is. but it would be quite hard to get right, with all the unfinished parts of it.
It’s about time they updated this set.
I like my tiny one from the GWP, but I always wanted this set and never got a chance to pick it up.

My thoughts exactly. It’s on my wanted list, but I’ll probably never own it…
And this set gets the 2023 Brickset award for "The Most Gray"!!! Congratulations to 10143 , and we hope they don't use the prize money to blast any more planets into space dust.
I don't know for sure that this is the most grey set, but I don't know how anything could have beat this.
Not the most auspicious way to ring in 2024
We'll only get one shot at this, Admiral!
Can't see them remaking this. But, stranger things have happened.
I got mine used more than a decade ago. Need to build it.
Happy New Year!!
More than ten percent of this set is gray 1x2 bricks.
lego designers are getting so lazy, now they're releasing a death star set before they finish building it!
I remember being disappointed when I saw it in person for the first time. it's very hollow and easy to see through
Death Star II (the first Death Star set), not to be confused with Death Star I (the second Death Star set), Death Star I (the third Death Star set), Death Star I (the fourth Death Star set), Death Star II (the first Death Star coin), or Death Star II (the fifth Death Star set).
Most of the way through piecing this together, for much less than what the kit costs now. Need to clear a space for it!
Gotta love the teeny tiny Star Destroyer for scale. Add the micro scale Destroyer from this years advent calendar to bulk up the battle a bit
I wanted this set so much when it was released, but being a student at the time couldn’t afford it. And looking at is price now…
I sold my sealed 10143 this year, and I have no regrets at all. The set isn’t very exciting, I have no place to display it, and even storing the box was starting to become a problem. And with the money I made, I was able to pay off another part of our morgage! Money well spent, I’d say.

It´s already been confirmed there will be ucs dsii re-make. Either this year or next
This set took forever to build because at the time, I didn't have the parts to replace the missing, broken, and chewed up pieces (not to mention determining what parts were thrown in that weren't from the set, including clone brands) from the previous owner. I could have probably gotten it done within 21 hours like I did 10030 Imperial Star Destroyer, but there would just be times where you couldn't go further without this part, and since things were such a mess when I was sorting out the parts, I wasn't sure if I could just order things ahead of time, so I did it as needed. I don't recommend that. This set is also pretty scary to look at when partially assembled because it's built very out of balance for a good while. With all of that said though, it's a great looking set, and I'm glad to have it in better condition than the previous owners. I never checked to see how long it took to take it apart and rebuild it for fun (and to make sure I'd gotten everything as it should be), but it was a much better experience the second time through.
RSOTD keeps throwing interesting sets at my bit: a $200 remake of this set wouldn't be the mega-upscaled version, but it might be the GWP version (FREE if you buy 2 Millennium Falcons--or 3 Rivendells).
I'm far too minifigure-centric to have ever gone after this, but it's an iconic set, and I'd probably like it over most of the non-fig scaled UCS sets as a display piece.

It does. You wanna know how I know?
My stepdad had this set, and it got destroyed - not by the rebel alliance - but by a small earthquake we had here in Missouri around 2009 (?) or so. (It fell of the top of a cabinet.) It has never been remade, and I'm not even sure we have all the parts!
I temember balking at the price for this in 2005. Of course that number is now a regular.
Although to be fair... it wás in 2005 money!
Great design achievement, probably horrible to build. Still better than Cap's shield, probably. Those greebling halves look like they'll break up the monotony at least!
I just realized that Globe from a few years ago is the closest we came to this since.
I just found this in a $200 bulk buy that I assumed was 100% vintage parts based on the pics. It had this and two other big SW sets buried underneath. A nice surprise to go with the galaxy explorer and all the other classic space sets.

Lots of delicious Imperial personnel cooked to perfection. Yub nub!
Back before people became was obsessed with minifigures, those were... simpler times.

Appropriate, since it, too, is no moon.
@Dash_Justice:
Oh, we were just as obsessed with minifigs at the time, but TLG wouldn't catch on for another 4-5 years, so they weren't really feeding the beast. Armybuilding stuff like Stormtroopers was much harder at the time.
I remember that pricing
(insert obligatory "It's a Trap!" meme here)

(Done). There's no way they'll remake it. Who confirmed what, exactly?
